I dropped the bouquet on the floor as I took the kids and walked out of the dining room. This whole thing was driving me insane, and I was beginning to lose my mind. My chest felt tight, my pulse erratic.
I didn’t even care that Derick was calling my name as I marched toward the hallway with Lyra clutching my hand and her twin brother following behind. I needed to breathe.
I needed to think.
The moment we got to the kids‘ room, I forced a smile. “Alright, sweethearts, time for bed,” I said softly, even though my voice trembled. I turned to the maid standing near the doorway.
“Please, bathe them, feed them, and get them to bed,” I instructed. She nodded and hurried toward them, her movements careful, as if afraid to touch the rising tension that clung to the air like smoke.
I lingered for a second, watching as Lyra giggled at something her brother said. The innocent sound hit me right in the chest. They didn’t deserve to be caught up in this. None of it.
Whatever was going on these mysterious flowers, Derick’s sudden anger, and this creeping paranoia, it was all building up, and I could feel the storm about to break.
By the time I reached my room, I barely managed to close the door before collapsing on the bed. The scent of my perfume still lingered faintly on the sheets, but instead of comfort, it made me feel sick. Everything around me suddenly felt heavy, too heavy.
I grabbed a pillow and screamed into it, punching it over and over until my knuckles ached and tears blurred my vision.
My wolf’s voice echoed in my head, calm but firm.
“This isn’t the time to be mad, Raven. You need to think. Someone’s behind this.”
I froze, breathing heavily. “Behind this?” I muttered aloud.
“Yes,” my wolf replied. “Someone is trying to break what you have with Derick. Whoever it is, they’re close too close. Because only someone who knows your every move could pull something like this off.”
I sat up slowly, the pillow still clenched in my hand. “That’s true,” I whispered. “But how do I find out who it is?”
My wolf didn’t answer immediately. Then, like a sudden flash, an idea struck me. “The CCTV,” I said under my breath, my heart racing. “A pack house this big must have surveillance cameras lots of them.”
That was it. If someone was watching me, then I could watch them back. But I had to be smart. The CCTV control room wouldn’t be easy to access, and I couldn’t risk asking anyone about it. That would only draw suspicion. I needed a plan, a quiet, careful plan.
I swung my legs off the bed, my mind racing through every possible scenario. First, I needed to find the

library. Big pack houses like this usually kept blueprints or maps of the entire estate somewhere safe, and the library was the perfect place to start. Once I found that map, I could locate the CCTV room and figure out how to get in without being noticed.
The thought gave me a little strength, enough to calm the storm in my chest. “Alright,” I whispered, pacing. “Find the library. Find the map. Then the CCTV.”
Still, another worry surfaced how would I handle the guard on duty? There would definitely be one stationed near the control room.
I might have to distract him, maybe with a false alarm elsewhere, or… no, that would draw too much attention. Perhaps a subtle approach, something that would make him leave his post for just a few minutes. I could work out the details later.
I was deep in thought when the sudden click of my bedroom door opening snapped me back to reality. My whole body went rigid.
The familiar scent hit me before I even looked up. Derick.
Of all times…
I didn’t have the strength for another argument. Not tonight. “Please,” I said quietly, my back still turned to him. “Just go, Derick. I don’t have the strength for this right now.”
His tone came out sharp, wounded. “After what you did, you’re telling me to go?”
I closed my eyes, exhaling through my nose. “What did I do?” I repeated bitterly.
He stepped inside, his voice rising. “You left my pack to go after a guy, Raven! Do you even realize what that looks like?”
That did it. I turned around sharply and slapped him across the face, the sound echoing through the room. My palm stung, but I didn’t care. “I can’t believe this is coming from you!” I snapped, tears burning behind my eyes. “If you think I went out with some guy, then prove it, Derick! Show me the damn evidence!”
His eyes were wild with frustration. “Then why didn’t you want me to go with you? And even when I suggested the driver should take you, you refused. Why, Raven? What are you hiding?”
I stared at him, speechless for a moment, disbelief knotting my stomach. “So that’s what this is about?” I asked quietly. “That’s what you’ve been thinking?”
He didn’t answer. His silence said it all.
“Unbelievable,” I muttered, stepping back. “Get out of my room.”
“I’m not leaving until you tell me who you went out with,” he shot back, his voice hard, eyes blazing. “You’re being reckless, Raven. You’re making me lose face in front of my parents.”
