Sebastian stood by Liana's hospital bed while the doctors conducted a thorough examination.
Nothing came up, and her vitals were completely normal. There was no medical reason for her to be this weak. But Liana had fainted and even coughed up blood. And given how important she was to Sebastian, none of the doctors dared to speak carelessly.
"Mr. Hayes, Ms. Halesworth's case has always been handled by Dr. Hathaway. She's the one most familiar with her condition," one of the doctors said cautiously.
Sebastian's expression darkened. "You're doctors. You mean to tell me you don't know what's wrong with your patient? How could she cough up blood and your tests show nothing?"
The doctors exchanged uneasy glances. It wasn't that they found nothing—it was that nothing was wrong. So, what were they supposed to say?
Just then, the door to the ward was pushed open, and Nicholas walked in, expressionless. Behind him followed a middle-aged male physician.
Nicholas shot Sebastian a look. He had already heard about what happened tonight, about Roxanne slapping Sebastian. Word had spread like wildfire throughout Valoria. Everything that happened at the gala was already out in the open.
Nicholas had nearly blown a fuse when he heard it. This was only the third day. Sebastian couldn't even hold it together for three days.
Nicholas felt like he was stuck with a hopeless teammate. And now, he understood why three days ago, Roxanne had been so certain Sebastian would fail. She had been through this too many times. She had long since stopped expecting anything from Sebastian.
The sad part was that Sebastian didn't even realize it.
Nicholas was truly infuriated. Was Sebastian a fool?
Liana fainted out of the blue and coughed blood on cue. How was this not absurd? Today, he was going to expose Liana for what she was once and for all so that Sebastian could finally see her manipulations.
He said, "This is Malcolm Wynn, an alternative medicine doctor. Since the rest of you couldn't find anything, let's let him take a look."
Malcolm replied with certainty, "No."
Nicholas sneered, "She just coughed up blood in front of a whole room full of people not long ago."
There were still faint traces of blood on Liana's lips.
Malcolm reached out and dabbed some from her lower lip and brought it to his hand. He held it beneath his nose and sniffed. "This is chicken blood, not human blood."
Nicholas gave a look of sudden realization. "So, Liana, you faked it. You had a pouch of chicken blood in your mouth, ready to spit it out!"
Liana lay quietly in bed, showing no reaction as if she were still unconscious. But Nicholas, being a doctor, noticed the tension in her body right away.
