What the hell?
Taylor sat to the side, studying Roxanne. Something about her seemed… off. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but she was definitely different from before.
…
Outside the private room, Sebastian was on the phone with Cayden.
"Mr. Hayes."
"For the past few years, I've had Nathaniel buy gifts for Roxanne during the holidays. But she just told me she never received any. Look into where those gifts and the money actually went."
Cayden sucked in a sharp breath on the other end. This was serious. With Sebastian's wealth, the things he gifted Roxanne weren't just expensive, they were outrageously expensive. He even sent gifts during the holidays as well, but she had never received them. Had Nathaniel been pocketing the money?
That amount...
No wonder when he called Nathaniel earlier to inform him about the company's lawsuit against him, his voice had been shaking. The things Nathaniel had been caught doing weren't even that severe. He would've just needed to pay back the money and would simply end up getting blacklisted in the industry.
Prison wasn't on the table.
But if he had embezzled this much… It was no wonder he was terrified.
"I understand, Mr. Hayes," Cayden said.
Sebastian hung up and clenched his fists, a storm brewing in his eyes. Nathaniel had some nerve. No wonder Roxanne had stopped expecting anything from him over the years. Just how deep had Nathaniel's deception gone?
He rubbed his temples. This was on him. He had handed everything off to his assistant and never bothered to check. And now, here they were. No wonder Roxanne wasn't so easily coaxed anymore. He sighed as a look of deep frustration settled over his striking features.
Liana's eyes instantly grew even wetter. "Sebastian..."
Roxanne watched the drama unfold, barely containing her excitement. She was living for this. If only they'd start fighting already.
As if the universe itself was setting the mood, the rain outside suddenly poured down in heavy sheets. The steady patter filled the air, adding a perfect dramatic touch to the scene.
Liana couldn't handle Sebastian's coldness anymore and burst into tears before running out.
Taylor panicked. "Liana! Liana!"
She dashed straight into the storm.
Taylor turned back to Sebastian and said in a loud voice, "Sebastian, Liana can't handle getting drenched! Are you just going to stand there and watch her die?"
