Mending a Broken Love (Roxanne and Sebastian) novel Chapter 50

Roxanne hadn't planned on having dinner with Sebastian in the first place. So, when he left with Liana, she walked away as well. On her way home, she stopped outside a pharmacy. She stepped inside. "Hi, I'd like a box of birth control pills."

She had no intention of sleeping with Sebastian—or any desire to—but she could never predict when he'd lose his mind again. There was no telling what he'd do next. So, she had to be prepared.

The last thing she wanted was to leave with a baby in her belly.

The masked cashier quickly handed her a box of pills.

She paid and left, not noticing a familiar figure in the store. As she reached the exit, a hand suddenly patted her shoulder. She turned around and met a face with a teasing smile. "Buying birth control, huh? Sebastian won't let you have his kid, will he?"

It was Bianca, Liana's half-sister. They shared the same father but had different mothers. Bianca's mother was Liana's stepmother. And yet, Bianca was two months older than Liana.

How could a woman who had to wait years to officially become the wife possibly be kind to her husband's first daughter?

Liana's frail health today was the result of years of torment under that stepmother's hands.

Miles and Liana were full-blooded siblings, and both had suffered under their stepmother. Meanwhile, Benedict had already written his will, leaving everything to Bianca and her eight-year-old brother, Edison. Liana and Miles got nothing.

In high society, people only respected power. Miles and Liana had no standing whatsoever.

That was until Miles entered university and met Sebastian. He was a smart man who always kept a low profile, but he finally revealed his hidden talents when he crossed paths with Sebastian. And as expected, Sebastian took notice.

Backed into a corner, Benedict had no choice but to agree.

That move—Miles' ruthless comeback, fueled by Sebastian—became legendary in Valoria.

So much so that many wealthy men who had remarried started treating their first wives' children with a lot more caution. No one wanted to end up like Benedict. After all, he had brought it upon himself.

If he hadn't been so merciless in the first place, Miles wouldn't have retaliated so viciously when he got the chance. It was best to always leave a way out for others and oneself.

Benedict and his second wife had nothing left to their names. That was the price they paid.
