Mending a Broken Love (Roxanne and Sebastian) novel Chapter 71

The mercenaries quickly subdued Nathaniel and his men. Meanwhile, Sebastian lunged toward the cliff's edge and peered down. Even with his night vision goggles, he couldn't see any trace of her—only the raging waterfall below.

Roxanne had jumped. His heart clenched painfully. At the very moment she leaped, she had shown the same unwavering determination as when she had jumped from the second floor and from the yard wall. She never hesitated and never looked back.

She had made up her mind. The thought of it filled Sebastian with regret. She had told him—plainly and clearly—that she didn't want this. Yet he had forced her into it.

He was the one who had promised to protect her. He had sworn that she would be safe. Still, he had driven her to the edge—literally.

Regret burned through him like a wildfire. Roxanne had been right. He could have captured Nathaniel sooner or later. At worst, Liana would have suffered a little longer. So why had he gambled with Roxanne's life? His eyes were filled with rage, and blood vessels pulsed at his temple.

The leader of the mercenaries, Gordon Swift, had all the captives secured and turned to Sebastian for instructions.

But before he could speak, Sebastian jumped. Gordon's face paled in shock as he rushed to the cliff's edge and cursed. "Sebastian has lost his damn mind! He really jumped?"

Roxanne jumping was one thing. Whether she lived or died wasn't his concern. But if Sebastian died, his grandfather, Lucas Hayes, would make him pay for it.

Gordon never imagined that the usually calm Sebastian would throw himself off a cliff for a woman. This was insanity. The other mercenaries were equally dumbfounded.

Sebastian really jumped. Gordon ran a hand through his hair in frustration.

"What are you all standing there for? Start searching! If we don't find him, how the hell do we explain this to Mr. Hayes Senior?"

In a daze, she barely managed to open her eyes. Through the haze, she thought she saw Sebastian. He was shouting her name.

"Roxanne, stay awake! Don't close your eyes!"

She had to be hallucinating. How ridiculous of her. She was at death's door, and all she could think about—all she could dream of—was still Sebastian. Her entire life had revolved around him.

She felt herself being pulled ashore. Sebastian was there, frantically patting her face. His expression was tight with worry.

"Roxanne, wake up."

A bitter smile tugged at Roxanne's lips. "Sebastian… you really won't go away, will you…"
