One by one, the crowd began to speak up, their voices tinged with accusation, all suggesting that Oliver was spouting lies.
"I'm telling you, Hayden's in cahoots with the island chief. They're plotting against us."
"The chief wouldn't happen to be engaged to Rosaline now, would he?"
At that remark, Oliver's gaze flicked sharply toward the speaker.
Just then, Hayden strolled in with Josefina by his side. Josefina's face was hidden behind a mask, revealing another's features, plain and unremarkable. Her face was one that wouldn't warrant a second glance.
Hayden took a seat in an empty chair, with Josefina settling next to him. "Are these accusations aimed at our Rose Bay Island?" Hayden asked, his voice carrying a gravity born of a man who was no stranger to bloodshed. Rumor had it he was ruthless, with a penchant for violence.
It was thanks to Oliver that they could all sit here now, staring at Hayden in uneasy silence. After taking over Demon's Isle, Oliver had slowly improved relations with Hayden. No one could fathom how these two devils managed to become friends.
The room fell silent once more, until Hayden's voice cut through, "Who said something about my daughter getting married?"
In the hushed conference room, not a soul dared to speak. Wasn't speaking up now akin to getting trouble?
At this moment, Asher walked in and whispered, "That person has fled."
Oliver was livid, though his rage was hidden behind his mask. He spoke up, "Clear out the unnecessary people."
Asher promptly escorted the women brought by the elders off the island. They didn't belong here and were to be sent away immediately.
...
The room became much emptier, and an eerie silence filled the air.
