"Emmy, can you hear me? We're all waiting for you to wake up."
Grandpa Robert's voice was thick with emotion, barely holding back tears. He was afraid that if he kept talking, he'd lose control.
"Josie, Oliver, why don't you two head home and get some rest? I want to spend a bit more time talking to your grandma, so I won't see you out."
Oliver gave Grandpa Robert a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Take good care of Emily, Grandpa. I'll come visit again soon."
"Grandpa, I'll drive Oliver home. You stay here with Grandma," Josie added softly.
With that, Josie and Oliver left.
...
They walked across a quaint wooden bridge, a serene pond stretching out below. The evening breeze stirred, making the water plants dance along with the ripples.
Oliver took Josie's hand as they strolled along the path.
Josie was feeling down. Despite saving so many lives, she couldn't wake her grandmother up instantly.
Sensing her mood, Oliver said, "Josie, don't blame yourself. Grandma's been in a coma for a long time. Any improvement is a good sign. Without you, she wouldn't be getting better day by day."
"I came back and brought Grandma home, and then she was poisoned. The culprit has to be someone in the Harrison family. And they don't want her to wake up because she must know something!"
"You're right; it's got to be Lena," Oliver said with a frown.
"Why are you so sure?" Josie asked, puzzled.
"Because she has the most to gain. If you hadn't come back, and with the other Harrisons' health declining, Lena would be the only one benefiting."
Josie had considered this possibility too, and Lena's behavior only fueled her suspicions.
