Reborn, She's Back for Revenge novel Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Joseph frowned a little.

He did treat Hallie like a sister, but they were never that close. Hallie was spoiled and selfcenteredshe never cared about him like this before.

It almost felt like she was pretending, just to show off in front of Edith.

Joseph curled his lips. I’m hungry. Let’s have dinner.

Then he headed downstairs.

Edith flashed a mocking smile. You love being a big sister so muchwhy don’t you ask your mom to give you a little brother?

Hallie’s face turned dark. Everyone in the Lovett family knew Karen couldn’t have kids anymore. Edith had said that to embarrass her.

Joseph is my brother. He has nothing to do with you. Mind your own business.” Edith gave her a cold look, then walked down the stairs.

Dinner was already served.

Karen sat at the head of the table and said calmly, Edith, don’t blame your father. He’s busy with work and out of town. He’ll be back tomorrow morning.

She paused and added, Cedric and Zachary are at boarding school. Shaun’s at a special school for treatment. So it’s just us at home for now.

Edith nodded. Got it.

She still had time. She could slowly rebuild her bond with the other three brothers.

As for her fathershe didn’t care. She only felt sorry her mom had five kids with such a terrible man.

ten a little when she said, I asked Dallas to check your grades. You’ve been a poor student since elementary scores like that, it’ll be hard to get into a decent high school.

uckled. So you’re bad at school too, and you still had the nerve to tell me to do my homework?

Edith’s eyes dimmed.

Before she turned twelve, she had always been a top student. But after Melinda died, guilt and grief took over. She cried all the time and stopped caring about school.

Then she got sent to a small town, where she got sick a lot and missed school often. Her studies fell apart.

In her previous life, when she came back to Sunspire at eighteen, Karen shoved her into some trashy school. One bad thing after another happened. She never made it to collegeKaren forced her to marry someone instead.

This time, she would take a different path.

Edith said firmly, “No matter how hard it is, I’ll get into Sunspire High School

She put down her fork and left the table.

She thinks Sunspire is so easy to get into? Hallie sneered She’s a failing student Now she wants to use our family to get in through the back door? Where does she get the nerve?

Joseph, still eating, looked up and said nonchalantly, I remember you didn’t get a high enough score for Sunspire her You paid to get in

Edith, now on the third floor, almost laughed out loud. For once, she thought Joseph was kind of cute

I’m not like her? Hallie jumped to her feet. I messed up the answer sheet during the test, that’s why my score looked bad. And Joseph, are you seriously taking Edith’s side?

Joseph put down his fork. T’m just telling the truth.

Joseph, don’t forgetour mom died because of Edith,Hallie said slowly. Now she’s back, picking on me, picking on you. Who knows what she’ll do next? You better be careful and not fall for her act.

And Cedric and Zachary should stay away for now, I don’t want Edith using them for anything. As for Shaunhe should never come home. What if she makes his condition worse?

Edith stood at the corner of the stairs and heard every single word Hallie said.

Her eyes darkened, but the smile on her lips only grew wider.

Night had fallen. Every light in the Lovett Manor was off, leaving the whole place in darkness.

Upstairs, in the biggest bedroom on the second floor, Hallic lay in bed. In a daze, she heard a soft click at the balcony door.

She thought she was imagining thingsuntil she opened her eyes and saw a figure step into the room.

There’s a- She didn’t get to finish. A sharp pain hit the back of her neck, and she collapsed onto the bed, unconscious.

The shadowy figure was Edith. She knelt by the bed and pulled a fruit knife from her waistband, slowly dragging it across

Hallie’s face.

In five minutes, Hallie’s beautiful hair lay scattered across the floor.

That night Edith slept like a baby.

She woke the next morning to Hallie’s screaming.

My hair is gone!Hallie sobbed Mom, someone broke in last night. They shaved my head. How am I supposed to leave the

house now?

Karen trembled with rage as she held the crying girl. Check the cameras. I want to know who dared touch my daughter!

She gently stroked Hallie’s back. Sweetheart, it’s okay. Hair grows back. Don’t cry. Mommy will make them pay.

I don’t want to be bald. I don’t want to live anymore! Hallic sobbed. I can’t face anyone like this

Edith stood nearby, watching coldly. She hadn’t expected Hallie to break down like this just over a haircut.

In her previous life, Edith didn’t just lose her hairher face had been ruined. She spent ten years in a hospital bed, barely

alive.

Mrs. Lovett, Dallas said carefully, there’s nothing unusual on the security footage. I checked the locks too no signs of forced entry. It looks like no one came in last night.

That’s impossible! Hallie shouted. I saw someone crawl through the window.

Edith smiled. The system’s reward had worked like a charm.

The system, once again, fell silent. The reward wasn’t meant for this kind of thing. It was for survival.

Edith blinked and said. I read that some skincare products can cause hair to fall out overnight. Hallie, are you using the brand that was on the news?

Hallie turned and stared at her, eyes widening. It was you! You shaved my head.

Hallie, you can’t just blame someone because your hair fell out,Edith said, all innocence. Selena, the lady who takes care of me, lost all her hair too. She used a folk remedy and it grew back in two weeks. Want to try it?

Get out!Hallie screamed. Edith had just compared her to Selena, an old ladyan insult she couldn’t forgive.

just then, a middleaged man’s voice came from the doorway, sharp with disapproval. Hallie, who are you yelling at?
