Zachary stormed upstairs, Just as he reached his room, Edith stepped out, heaming at him. She was obviously in a great mood.

Zachary said awkwardly. “What’s so funny?”

Edith tossed the exercises in her hand at him and said, “This is your homework for today. You can’t go to bed until you finish it.”

Zachary resisted the urge to throw the workbook on the floor and flipped to the first page, the first question was a multiple–choice one, matching rate characters to their pronunciations.

Honestly, he might have seen these characters before, but never knew how to pronounce them. But somehow, he just workbook gave him the same feeling as the math one from a few days agu.

Zachary looked up and asked, “Where did you get this workbook?”

Edith said with a smile, “That’s a secret. Just do your homework. I know you’ll get a great score on this month’s test.”

She pushed Zachary into his room and then knocked on Joseph’s door. After several knocks, there was no answer.

“Ouch!” Joseph yelped, and his face twisted in pain. He tried to dodge Edith’s touch, pulling his arm away as fast as he could.

Edith tossed the workbook onto the sola, at him down firmly, and rolled up his sleeve.

The skin on his elbow was scraped raw, and the blood hadn’t been cleaned up. His white thirt was damed with quite a bit of bindon

“Spill it. What happened?” Edith said in a calm voice

If she hadn’t asked, it might’ve been fine: But as soon as she did, Joseph’s eyes suddenly turned moist, making him look like a le bunny who’d just been bullied. “It was Warren Reed from sixth grade. He’s been picking on me.”

Edith suddenly realized that these candies might actually be useful. They could get even the most rebellious kids to tell the truth–definitely the perfect weapon for dealing with Zachary and Joseph.

She kept asking, “Why is Warren picking on you?”

“I really don’t know.” Joseph shook his head. “Last time, on my way home, he brought a bunch of sixth graders to chase me. You showed up just in time. so he didn’t catch me.

Tonight, I went to a classmate’s house to do homework, and he suddenly barged in with those guys and told them to beat me up. Luckily, I managed to

run away.”

Even though he ran fast, he still got punched a few times. While running, he tripped and scraped his elbow, it hurt like hell Edith narrowed her eyes. That night, when she went out looking for Joseph, she did see a bunch of kids chasing after him.

The next day at school, Edith pulled Noreen aside outside the classroom. Noreen was kind of baffled. After what happened to her, nobody in class had bothered to talk to her at all.

She thought, “Wait, does Edith want to be friends with me? Sure, things have been pretty ugly between us before, and I’ve even been shoved into a sink and forced to swallow some dirty water.

“But if Edith is actually reaching out to me now, I guess I can let bygones be bygones
