Edith knew the Larson family was the most powerful in Sumspine, but she’d always assumed their power was limited to the business world. She never expected their influence to reach so deeply into education as well.

The principal spoke at length, but Marcus only gave a faint mod indifferently. The principal wiped the sweat from his forehead, turned and went back into

the hall.

The other businessmen and politicians tried to make small talk with Marcus, but he glanced up and spotted Edith walking out.

Now out of her gown, Edith wore a crisp white shirt and sky–blue jeans with a ponytail brushing her shoulders. Her face was full of youthful energy looking completely different from the one on stage just inements ago.

Marcus waved his hand, and then the people around him stopped talking and scattered. Then he strode over to Edith.

“Mr. Larson?” Edith called his name softly. She hesitated, torn between calling an ambulance or just dialing Larry directly.

Suddenly, the man lying on the ground snapped his eyes open. His eyes, which were usually sharp and intense, now looked hary and lost, full of confusion and helplessness. The next moment, when he spotted Edith, his eyes instantly lit up.

“Stop crying” Edith rubbed her forehead helplessly. “Let’s head back first.”

She thought, ‘The Lovett family and the Larson family live in the same gated community. Once we get there, I’ll just have Larry come out and take him off my hands!

Dodo instantly broke into a smile through his tears and grabbed Edith’s hand. “I wanna go to your place! I wanna live with you. Didi, promise you won’t drive me away again, okay?”
