Chapter 17 A Message and a Money
Then she deleted Yvonne.
Yvonne had just typed out dozens of “bitch”s and hit send, only to see a red exclamation mark pop up.
Becky had blocked her. Yvonne was so furious she stomped her foot.
Xavier checked his phone again
–
still no reply from Becky.
That night at New Year’s dinner, Yvonne was still glaring at her phone like she wanted to tear it apart.
Finally, she let out a huff and slammed the phone onto the table.
Lilian scolded her lightly. “What are you doing?”
“Nothing,” Yvonne muttered.
She didn’t dare admit she had sent Becky knives and bombs.
Xavier was sitting right next to her. He turned his head slightly to glance at her.
Then he paused.
He set down his fork, reached over, and picked up Yvonne’s phone with his long fingers.
“That’s my phone!” Yvonne tried to snatch it back, but Xavier dodged her easily. One sharp look from him, and she immediately sat down again.
In this family, Yvonne feared Xavier more than even their father Henry.
Xavier scrolled through her phone.
He saw the message that said “dumbass,” sent around noon.
Which meant Becky had seen the message he sent her earlier – and chose to ignore it.
He ground his teeth and tossed the phone back on the table.
Yvonne quickly scooped it up and clutched it to her chest.
Xavier said, “Change the name.”
Yvonne asked, “What name?”
“The contact.”
“You’re reading my Whatsapp chats?”
“Don’t make me repeat myself.”
Yvonne had no choice but to change Becky’s name back from “Bitch” to “Becky.”

“There. Done.”
Xavier said coldly, “Yvonne, if I catch you bullying her again, just try me.”
Yvonne pouted. “You always take Becky’s side. I’m your real sister! How could you be like this?”
Xavier ignored her and stood up. “I’m done eating.”
He picked up his car keys and walked out.
Lilian followed him. “It’s New Year’s Eve. Why don’t you just stay the night?”
Xavier opened the car door. “I have something to do.”
“Then at least come back for lunch tomorrow.”
“We’ll see.”
Lilian returned to the table and picked up Yvonne’s phone to check.
She frowned. “Why did you go and bother Becky again?”
Yvonne said tearfully, “Everyone’s scolding me. No one likes me. I hate you all!”
She ran upstairs in tears.
Lilian let out a sigh.
Henry tossed his fork down, face dark. “Can’t even have one peaceful day during the holidays.”
At the Yale family’s home, the air was filled with laughter.
Becky’s sweet talk had Barry and Mary grinning from ear to ear.
“What is it?”
Barry, Mary, and Sharon all looked over at her.
Becky beamed. “Nothing, nothing.”
Sharon didn’t believe her and leaned in. “Tell me. What happened?”
Becky showed her the chat with Xavier.
Sharon gasped. “Holy crap!”
Xavier had transferred her a hundred thousand yuan.
Becky kicked her legs in delight.
“It actually worked! What other holidays can I milk for money?”
Sharon rolled her eyes. “Are you planning to get rich off this?”
“Not necessarily, but hey, it works on Xavier. He’s loaded.”
Whatever. For that kind of money, she could lose a little face.
Besides, she was carrying Xavier’s kid. What was wrong with asking him for money?

She didn’t want him to know she was pregnant yet – or he’d definitely bring up child support.
Sharon grinned. “You know what? This is actually a pretty solid hustle. I support you.”
Becky handed the newly received hundred thousand back to Sharon.
Finished
“Debts between friends should be clear. I don’t like owing money. Here – this repays what I borrowed.”
Sharon accepted it. “Alright. Let me know if you need more.”
Before bed, Mary handed Becky some money.
“Here, Becky. It’s not much, but this is our family’s tradition.”
