Chapter 178 Emotional Armor
Yulia couldn’t stay a second longer. She grabbed her bag and ran.

Whether Becky actually had the photos or not didn’t matter. With so many eyes watching, she couldn’t afford the risk.
Quincy finally snapped out of it and chased after her.
Sharon dragged Becky into the car, practically bouncing with excitement.
“Come on, show me the pictures! I wanna see!”
Becky replied, “I don’t have them anymore.”
“What? You were bluffing?”
“Well, I did have them. But they were on the phone 1 lost when I got kidnapped. My new phone doesn’t have the pictures.”
“So who was Yulia messing around with?”
Wendle”
Xavier’s college classmate–she’d met him before
Always smiling, but underneath that grin, he was sneaky and manipulative.
“Holy shit!”
Sharon had seen Wendle a few times too.
Back when she was glued to Becky’s side and Becky was constantly chasing after Xavier, she’d run into Wendle a number of
times.
Now that she thought about it, Wendle had acted way too nice to Yulia–overly attentive, not normal at all.
But she’d been too naïve back then to read between the lines.
Sharon frowned. “This kind of juicy gossip–you never thought to share it with me?”
Becky scratched her head. “It had to do with Xavier. Guys have pride, you know. I couldn’t just go blabbing about something like that
That would be rubbing salt in his wounds.
And she was, after all, a kind–hearted little angel
Sharon asked, “Xavier knows, right?”
That kind of betrayal–there’s no way he didn’t notice.
Becky nodded. “He found out a while ago.”
“So they’ve been broken up for a long time now, and she’s just the one still clinging on?”
“Seems like it.
Sharon let loose on Yulia, tearing into her with her usual razor–sharp tongue. She had no filter and would say whatever she wanted. If Yulia had been there to hear it, she probably would’ve burst into tears.
Suddenly. Becky interrupted her. “Xavier told me to get revenge on him.”
Sharon stopped mid–rant, turning to Becky with a face full of question marks
Becky said. “He told me to date him–make him fall for me so hard it’s in his liones, and then dump him.”
Sharon stared at her. “So he confessed to you?”

He had already confessed once before, though she hadn’t taken it seriously,
Sharon gave her a long, serious look. “Do you want to date him?”
“I don’t know.”
Becky genuinely didn’t know. When it came to Xavier, her thoughts were always a mess. That’s why she wanted to talk to
Sharon about it.
Sharon asked, “Are you afraid of getting hurt?”
Becky frowned.
Was she?
In her previous life, she’d never been in a real relationship. When she reached the age for marriage, she’d met her fiancé through a matchmaker. They got engaged, but never held hands–not even once. They only had three meals together, and before anything really happened, the engagement was called off because she was diagnosed as infertile.
There was no emotional connection between them. And when he broke off the engagement, she couldn’t blame him. If the roles had been reversed and he’d been the one diagnosed, she probably wouldn’t have married him either.
Relationships born from blind dates were purely transactional.
She grew up in an orphanage, had seen the best and worst of people, the warmth and the cruelty. She never dared to imagine what living with a complete stranger would be like.
Even with that engagement, she had been anxious the entire time.
Even if she hadn’t been diagnosed, she was
sure she’d actually go through with the wedding.
She had inherited the original Becky’s memories–the Becky who had loved Xavier so much she’d gone completely off the rails. Becky didn’t approve of a lot of that behavior. Just the fact that the original Becky drugged Xavier that was already way out of line. Even though she played it off when facing Xavier, deep down she still felt guilty about it.
She didn’t understand why Xavier suddenly liked her now. Was the original Becky he liked, or the current her? Or maybe both?
And how long would this so–called love last?
He told her to date him–make him fall hard, then leave him.
But could she really do that?
Would it end with her dumping him, or him dumping her?
What if she ended up falling for him and he decided to walk away?
Could she handle that?
She wasn’t as carefree as she pretended to be.
When she thought about it seriously, she realized Sharon was right.
She was afraid of getting hurt
She wasn’t someone who could play the field–flirt, date, and walk away like it meant nothing. If she couldn’t be sure, she’d rather not even begin
In psychology, this was called a defense mechanisin–a tendency to choose the safer option to protect oneself.
And honestly, maybe that wasn’t such a bad thing
Chapter 178 Emational Armor
Sharon noticed she was zoning out and gave her a nudge
Becky blinked “What?”
Sharon thought for a moment, then offered her opinion.

“If you’re not sure, then just give it time. You’ve got such a strong support system now. You don’t need a man. And if you’ve got you know needs, just pay someone.”
Becky was speechless.
“I don’t have those kinds of needs.”
Even if she did, she wouldn’t go looking for someone random. She was too much of a clean freak for that
Sharon raised an eyebrow. Then what do you even need a man for? He can’t even do the one thing he’s supposed to be good
for.
Becky exhaled. “Exactly. I don’t need a man. I’ve never felt more free in my life.”
Sharon grinned. “Come on. Let’s go home and stop thinking about smelly men.”
