As a new mom, Becky couldn’t resist stopping when she saw baby products; she just had to look, just had to buy. Xavier followed her in.
After a moment’s hesitation, Yulia and Jose followed too.
Becky browsed through the items, picking and choosing until her cart was full in no time. When it was time to check out, she was just about to pull out her phone when a card slid in front of her.
A deep voice sounded beside her. “Swipe this.”
Becky turned and saw Xavier’s flawless, handsome profile. She pressed her lips together and put her phone
away.
Yulia stood not far off, watching, green with envy but powerless to stop it. “Jose, why didn’t you go pay?” Jose’s face darkened, but he said nothing.
Yulia had pretty much figured out who the child belonged to. A storm raged inside her. Becky! How dare she? Yulia was panicking inside, but she kept her expression composed, smiling as she said, “Jose, you like Becky so much. She’s divorced now; why don’t you go after her?”
Jose replied, “Of course I’m going to go after her.”
“You won’t win her over just standing there. You need to act. Girls always say they want respect and space, but honestly, if you’re a little pushy and forceful, they like it better.”
Jose frowned slightly, mulling over her words.
Yulia left it at that and said no more.
As soon as the clerk finished packing the bags, Jose strode over and picked them up.
Xavier gave him a glance but said nothing. He turned and walked out of the baby store with Becky.
Jose followed behind, lugging two huge bags.
Yulia’s mouth twitched. Right now, Jose looked like a bodyguard–just there to carry stuff.
But Jose himself didn’t notice; he was even beaming, thinking that Becky would surely see him in a new light for being so helpful, so strong.
A moment later, James began to cry.
The maternity nanny said he was hungry.
Becky carried him to the nursing room.
Jose started to follow but was blocked by Xavier. “Scram.”
Jose growled, “Xavier, what the heck is wrong with you?”
Yulia quickly stepped in to smooth things over. “Jose, Becky’s probably going in to breastfeed. Men aren’t allowed

She pointed to the sign near the door as she spoke, Jose looked embarrassed and turned away reluctantly.
Up close, his ears were red.
Xavier leaned against the entrance to the nursing room, one hand tucked casually in his pocket. Tall and distant, he gave off an unmistakable vibe. A mom pushing her stroller came by, caught sight of him, and turned away, startled.
Yulia looked up at him and asked, “Xavier, whose child is that?”
“Mine,” he said bluntly.
He gave Yulia no room to guess.
She closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them again, a look of pain on her face.
“Then what are we?”
You love me, I love you, so what’s all this drama for? Xavier’s face darkened.

He grabbed her by the collar and started walking.
Becky shouted, “What are you doing?”
“Taking you home,” Xavier said flatly.
“I don’t want to go home! I’m not done shopping!”
Jose came running up. “Xavier, that’s enough! You’re being way too rough!”
Becky nodded furiously. Way too rough!
Being dragged around by the collar was incredibly uncomfortable.
Xavier had only one word for Jose, “Scram.”

“Xavier, are you even a man? If you’ve got the guts, fight me! What kind of man bullies a woman? Becky gave birth to your child–do you even have a conscience?”
Xavier stopped and let Becky down.
She finally caught her breath and tried to bolt–but Xavier yanked her right back.
Like a ball on a string, she bounced away only to snap back again.
Xavier turned to Jose. “You want to fight?”
Jose straightened his neck. “I can’t stand you.”
“I feel the same,” Xavier said coldly. “But I don’t have time to mess with you right now. Jose, I’m warning you–stay away from Becky.”
