Chapter 69 Want One?

At this point, she figured she might as well wait for Abigail to return.

Besides, she actually got along well with Abigail and didn’t want to replace her.

After James had eaten his fill, Becky placed him in the stroller; it didn’t take long for him to fall asleep.

For a baby his age, he was remarkably well–behaved–cat, sleep, repeal.

Becky strolled leisurely through the plaza with the stroller and eventually stopped by a bubble tea shop to grab a drink.

Thinking of how Xavier had just bought her a brand–new phone to make up for things, she decided to be generous and turned to ask, “Want one?”

Xavier shook his head, he didn’t like sugary drinks.

So Becky just ordered one for herself.

Once the drink was ready, she shoved the stroller at Xavier and started sipping her bubble tea.

Xavier’s eyes locked on her lips as she drank.

Her lips were a healthy shade of pink–soft and pretty.

The more he looked, the thirstier he felt; he snatched the cup from her hand and took a sip.

Becky stared at him. “Didn’t you say you didn’t want any?”

“Changed my mind.”

“Then let me get you your own.”

“No need.”

Despite saying that, the man in question went on to steal several more sips, to the point where Becky didn’t even get to enjoy her drink properly.

After an hour of walking around, Becky was tired and ready to go home.

Xavier stuffed her into the Rolls–Royce.

Worried he’d forget James again, Becky started to get out of the car.

“Sit still!” Xavier’s voice was commanding.

Becky pointed at the stroller.

“I know, I won’t forget,” Xavier replied.

Then he pulled James out of the stroller.

Becky watched as he held James with one hand and, with a few swift movements, folded up the stroller and tossed it into the trunk.

She was stunned.

Randall had been about to help, but Xavier had already handled it before he could even move.

When Xavier got into the car, Becky looked at him with wide–eyed admiration.

“How do you know how to fold that thing?”

Xavier smirked, full of disdain. “Takes zero brain cells. Anyone could do it.”

Is that so? Becky thought of how Jose had fumbled with it forever and still couldn’t manage to close the thing.

James woke up and immediately started wriggling, wanting to go to Becky.

Xavier gave his tiny butt a firm pat.

“Stay still.”

James looked at Becky with a wounded expression.

His small eyes pleaded. Mom, are you really going to let this happen?

Becky glared at Xavier. “Why’d you hit him?”

Then she scooped James into her arms.

Xavier shot James a look. “He’s a boy. If he doesn’t listen, he needs discipline.”

“He’s a baby,” Becky snapped.

Xavier replied seriously, “You have to start teaching them young.”

“So what, you got beat up as a kid?”

“No.”

“Then why are you hitting James?”

“Because I behaved. He doesn’t.”

“Nothing.”

“Nothing? Then what’s so funny?”

“Just felt like laughing.”

Becky rolled her eyes. This guy’s brain must be broken.

They arrived at Luminous Heights.

Becky got out with James in her arms while Xavier retrieved the stroller from the trunk.

Becky said, “Open the stroller–I’ll put James in.”

Xavier said, “You hold him. I’ll handle the stroller.”

“No need. Abigail’s not home right now. If you come upstairs, just the two of us–what’s that supposed to look like?”

“We’ve got James with us.”

“He doesn’t count.”

“He’s not a person?”

Becky went quiet.

You’re the one who’s not a person!”

Becky couldn’t help but feel that having a dad like Xavier was James‘ greatest misfortune.

Xavier carried the stroller toward the building and threw out, “Fine–then think of me as a ghost”

Becky tilted her head to the sky.

Xavier turned to her. “What are you looking at? There’s no money falling from the sky.”

Becky was too done to argue. She just lifted her feet and followed after him.
