Rewriting the love story after traveling into the novel novel Chapter 79

hapter 79 Who’s the Real Enemy?

“Who’s fighting? You full? If not, cat some more.”

Becky stared blankly at him.

That was the fork she’d been using.

Didn’t he have any sense of hygiene?

Jose glared at the fork in Xavier’s hand, grinding his teeth audibly.

Sharing a fork like that–it was an intimate move.

He seriously couldn’t figure Xavier out.

He didn’t like Becky, and they’d already gotten divorced, so why was he still hanging around?

Becky really hadn’t eaten enough. She went to get another bowl of rice and a new fork.

Nothing was more important than filling her stomach.

After dinner, Xavier gathered the cutlery and brought it into the kitchen to wash.

Jose was stunned.

“He does the dishes?”

Becky was sprawled on the couch, scrolling through videos on her phone.

“Yeah, he’s been doing them the past few days. Does a pretty good job too.”

Jose felt like Becky was praising Xavier. It made him want to prove himself.

“Anything I can help with?”

Becky waved him off. “Nah, you’re a guest. I can’t have you doing chores.”

He was a guest. Xavier wasn’t.

Jose didn’t like that.

“Don’t be polite with me. Come on, give me something to do.”

Becky thought for a moment. “You can sweep the floor.”

“Sounds good.”

Jose jumped up, bouncing around without actually starting.

Becky said, “What are you doing?

“Looking for your robot vacuum.”

“I don’t have one. Use the broom. It’s in the bathroom.”

“Oh.”

Jose grabbed the broom, rolled up his sleeves, and got ready to go all out.

Xavier finished washing the dishes and came out. He glanced at Jose, who flashed him a provocative grin.

Expressionless, Xavier began directing him.

“You missed a spot.”

“Make sure you get under the table too.”

“Hey, do you even know how to clean? You’re way too sloppy.”

Jose gripped the broom tighter, face darkening.

“I’ll clean how I want. Mind your own business. This has nothing to do with you.”

Becky spoke up. “Jose, it really isn’t clean. You should take the feedback.”

Jose immediately deflated and started sweeping again.

Becky glanced over. Still not clean–but she didn’t say anything else.

Didn’t want to crush his spirit.

“Alright, now just mop.”

Jose didn’t know how. He grabbed the dripping wet mop and started sloshing it around, leaving puddles

everywhere.

Becky shook her head. “Jose, are you trying to flood my house?”

Jose looked helpless.

Xavier shoved him toward the door.

“It’s late. Stop freeloading. Get out.”

The door slammed shut.

He was thoroughly annoyed.

Had no choice but to go home.

Sharon had just been chewed out by Brendon again. Furious, she stormed out of work.

Brendon went looking for her, didn’t find her, tried calling–so she blocked his number.

Brendon lost it.

A bold employee like that? Any other boss would’ve fired her a hundred times over by now.

He actually thought he was being generous.

Sharon showed up at Becky’s place to vent.

Becky sympathized.

“Why don’t you report him?”

Sharon snorted. “Forget it. Brendon’s not as powerful as Xavier, but he’s still got connections in Dracovia. I’d never win.”

“So he just gets to run wild?”

“I think he’s got it out for me personally. He’s normal with the others. Just me he targets.”

“What did you do to offend him?”

“I didn’t do anything.”

Sharon cast Becky a sidelong glance. “I have a theory, but I don’t know if I should say it.”

Becky waved her hand. “Say it.”

“I think there’s something fishy between Brendon and Xavier.”

“Fishy how?”

“Think about it–Brendon doesn’t like me. Doesn’t like you either. Might even hate us. You ever wonder why?”

“Why?”
