Vincent’s mother’s eyes were rimmed red, and she barely dared to speak.
“This son of mine… I can’t control him anymore. He’s got real nerve, scheming against me since he was a child.” Stephen’s voice shook with fury. He was about to unleash another tirade at Vincent when his phone rang—a call from an unknown number.
Stephen tensed, his back ramrod straight, fingers trembling. He hesitated, too afraid to answer.
How could he possibly explain to the boss… that he too had been played—outmaneuvered by his own son?
Vincent had pocketed more of Tyrone’s money than he’d let on.
A chill ran through Stephen. The ambition in his son made him uneasy in ways he’d never imagined.
After a long, heavy silence, Stephen finally forced himself to answer the call.
If it came to it, he might have to abandon Vincent. He still had several illegitimate sons, after all. The Lawsons wouldn’t be left without an heir. A son who refused to obey was a liability—one that needed to be dealt with.
Otherwise, the threat would linger forever.
“Sir… I’m sorry. There’s been trouble at Lawson & Co. Vincent… he’s stripped me of my authority. Now the entire company is stacked with his people…” Stephen’s voice was barely above a whisper.
“You let your own son out-scheme you, Stephen. That’s just pathetic.” The man’s voice on the other end was cold and deep.
“My son…” Stephen stood and moved to a deserted corner, lowering his voice. “I don’t think I can keep him around.”
“You need to think very carefully. If Vincent becomes a threat we can’t control, I’ll have no choice but to make him disappear,” the man replied, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
Stephen clenched his jaw, closing his eyes. “Do what you must. I doubt there’s any turning back for him now.”
A cold chuckle drifted through the phone. The man clearly had nothing but contempt for Stephen, who couldn’t even keep his own son in line.

Alicia’s Apartment.
“Alicia… you need to brace yourself.” Winnie looked her in the eye. “You and Yvonne share the same blood. She’s your aunt.”
Alicia drew a deep breath, sitting on the edge of the bed, staring down at the DNA test results.
So her suspicions had been right all along.
She really was the lost heir of the White family—Nicole.
All this time, the real Nicole… was her.
A bitter laugh escaped Alicia, her eyes burning as tears threatened.
Her mind spun with confusion.
If only there hadn’t been all those schemes. If only there hadn’t been that murder all those years ago… If her parents had lived, if she’d grown up cherished in the White family as their beloved daughter—what kind of life would she be living now?
