Whitney looked at Claudia, genuinely relieved. “I really didn’t expect Mr. Romero to be such a clingy guy when he’s with you.”
He was like a giant, overgrown puppy.
She added with a grin, “But seeing you two get along so well really puts my mind at ease.”
If this had all happened with Jasper, things would never have ended up like this. He wouldn’t have had the courage to stand up for Claudia.
Sterling really was a better match for Claudia.
Claudia couldn’t help but laugh at the motherly pride on Whitney’s face.
Sterling was wonderful, but so was Whitney–she had stood by Claudia’s side through the toughest years of her youth.
They were both her guiding lights in different ways.
After a bit more catching up, Whitney turned serious.
“What do you plan to do about Lydia? And about Jasper and the Lancasters? If you go the legal route, at most they’ll get arrested for aiding and abetting, but nothing Preston has could really hurt them.”
But letting them off that easily wasn’t something either of them could accept.
Claudia’s voice took on a distant note. “Every action has its consequences. They chose Lydia back then, so they’ll have to live with what comes. As for Preston, keep it quiet for now. I’ll wait until Jasper and Lydia get married. Then I’ll deliver his big surprise.”
As for the Lancasters, her dear sister Lydia would be out of prison soon.
When that day came, Claudia planned to greet her in person.
She decided to let Lydia enjoy her last days of freedom to the fullest.
From having nothing, to building a perfect life, to losing everything in public, and then getting it all again after getting out of prison, only to lose it … Lydia deserved to experience the twists of fate herself, just as she’d manipulated the destinies of others.
Meanwhile, Claudia threw herself into work the very next day, not giving Lydia another thought.

Tilda was thriving more than ever, clearly fitting in with the other dancers in the troupe.
When Claudia showed up. Tilda greeted her excitedly, “Ms. Lancaster, you’re here!”
She’d wanted to pick Claudia up herself, but Claudia insisted she had a ride, so Tilda let it go.
Even though she had made it to the international stage, Tilda never forgot who paved the way
for her.
Working with Claudia again filled her with joy.
Florence also stepped up with a warm hug. “Claudia, welcome.”
Their ballet skills were already shaping up, but Florence felt a few of the female lead’s solos were still lacking.
Chatting with her friend Celine, she’d reminisced about Lydia’s performance of Chasing the Wind. Florence had plenty of dancers, but not enough truly gifted choreographers.
Celine recommended Claudia.
Knowing Chasing the Wind was Claudia’s work, Florence became eager to work with her–there was just something magical about that piece.
She invited Claudia to be the troupe’s special consultant, hoping she might bring something
