Chapter 279 Hero Complex
Chapter 279 Hero Complex
If things fell apart with Sasha, he’d be back at the starting point in no time.
“Claudia…” He quickly turned to Claudia.

Lydia was her cousin. Letting Claudia take care of her seemed like the smartest choice.
Wasn’t it always like that before?
But before he could say more, Claudia gave him a shocked and disgusted look. Sterling, standing close by, looked super cold.
He really seemed to remember how much Lydia had hurt Claudia in the past.
He always ignored it, acting like family ties and favors were all that mattered.
“Ha,” Sasha scoffed at the confused Jasper. “Seems like you still haven’t dealt with your ex, Mr. Fenton. I’m done.”
She might be a little innocent, but she wasn’t dumb.
These two jerks were flirting right in front of her. Was she supposed to just accept it? No way.
“Sasha!” Jasper shouted after her.
Sasha stopped for a moment. She saw Jasper looking worried, but still holding onto that other woman. Feeling disappointed, she turned and walked away.
She barely moved a few steps when her anger exploded. She turned around and slapped him hard.
“You jerk!”
Jasper froze.
I was only trying to help. Was I supposed to let Lydia fall to the ground?
Sasha was overreacting way too much.
His right hand was still hurt from Clint’s “special treatment” at Serenity Peaks, so he couldn’t use it well.
He awkwardly supported Lydia with his other hand and looked at Claudia again.

Chapter 279 Hero Complex
“Get lost!”
The words came out sharp from Claudia’s red lips.
Jasper felt embarrassed and miserable.

By then, Lydia was starting to feel a bit better. Her breathing became steady, and she tried to tell Jasper to get her medicine from her bag.
After giving her some small white pills, Jasper wanted to explain things to Claudia, but Lydia squeezed his hand and shook her head. “Let’s go.”
Realizing that explaining was useless, he let out a bitter laugh and helped Lydia leave.
The store manager and staff who had just been watching were left stunned.
Wait, what just happened? Were they invisible or something? Was Jasper really that clueless? Couldn’t the staff help or call an ambulance? The mall had security, right?
If Claudia knew what they were thinking, she’d probably say, “In Jasper’s world, he’s the only hero.”
That’s just how he was.
Sterling, who had seen everything, looked disgusted and asked honestly, “Is he stupid?”
If he were chasing true love, he should have thought about Claudia’s feelings the whole time.
If he were being practical, he should have stayed with Sasha–the girl his mom picked–and never give the impression that he was so wishy–washy.
But he didn’t choose Claudia, who he say he likes. He didn’t choose Sasha, whom he needs in real life. He chose the most troublesome, useless person–Lydia.
This isn’t love, no matter how you look at it.
Claudia’s expression was hard to read. “Maybe he has a hero complex.”
The kind where someone depends on you completely, looks up to you, and you get to save them from trouble–even if it’s weird because she’s your friend’s girlfriend. Jasper probably liked that push–and–pull feeling.
“I actually admire Lydia more.”
