This afternoon was crazy. After all that drama, it actually feels nice to see how normal Sterling and Claudia’s relationship is.
Of course, people were talking about it everywhere, and the rumors spread fast.
Jasper dropped Lydia off at the Lancaster Residence.
While driving, he got a call from Sylvia. The moment he answered, she started yelling at him. She also said the Jammers were mad and had already blocked him.
Jasper rubbed his forehead, feeling tired.
When it came to feelings, he always seemed to mess things up.
“Jasper … ” Lydia bit her lip before speaking. “I think I’ve gotten you into trouble again.”
Jasper shook his head. “It’s not your fault.”
But then he stopped for a moment and said, “I brought you home today because I wanted to make things clear.”
He looked straight at her. “Lydia, I can’t take care of you forever. This is the end.”
Ever since he helped her when she went to prison, he no longer owed her anything.
He couldn’t let his life keep falling apart like this.
Lydia froze.
She had felt something was wrong ever since he’d agreed to let Sylvia cancel their engagement, but she had spent years with Jasper. How could she just let now?
go
More than that, Jasper was already the best she could ever hold onto.
But she didn’t show her feelings. She just nodded, pretending to understand. “I know. Right
now,
I’m just a burden to everyone.”
“But, Jasper, can I still use your name sometimes? At home…” she hesitated.
She trailed off, as if she couldn’t finish her words..

Jasper frowned. “The Lancasters are treating you badly?”

Lydia gave a bitter smile. “You know how it is. I had to meet my parents‘ expectations and keep up the Lancasters‘ image as a genius dancer. I messed up, and the
company suffered.”
She didn’t say everything, but it was easy to guess.
Once the adopted daughter was no longer useful, the Lancasters just ignored her.
Jasper sighed. “I’ll walk you inside myself.”
“Thank you,” Lydia said with a small smile.
When they walked in together, Clarence’s face showed a flicker of confusion.
But Jasper immediately shot a harsh question at him. “Clarence, Lydia’s mom did a lot for your family. Don’t take things too far.”
Clarence wasn’t happy about being scolded for no reason. “What’s your problem?” he snapped.
Since the Fentons called off the engagement, the two families couldn’t go back to normal.
Now, both sides were just barely keeping their calm.
They looked at each other with dislike.
But that didn’t give Jasper the right to be rude in the Lancaster Residence.
His voice was cold. “Just so you know, mistreating an adopted daughter doesn’t look good.”
Lydia quickly tried to calm things down.
After Jasper finally left, Clarence, still upset from being accused of mistreating someone who helped his family, glared at Lydia. “Well, tell me what’s going on.”
