“She’s your mom!” Clarence’s voice sounded sharp and serious.

“My mom? Ha! She made it very clear back then. She told me not to call her that. She said she’s only Claudia’s mom.”
Clarence pressed his lips together. “She had just learned the truth. She was angry and said things she didn’t really mean. Lydia, you’ve been part of the Lancasters for 17 years. The past can’t change that.”
Lydia gave a mocking laugh. “Don’t try that family talk with me. I’m not that fool Claudia. Clarence, I just want money.”
Clarence’s face turned hard. “200 million? No way. We don’t have that much right now.”
The day after the birthday party, the company’s shares had dropped badly. The internet was full of hate and nasty comments.
Honestly, they could go bankrupt any day now.
“That’s not my problem,” Lydia said coldly.
Clarence shouted, “Lydia! What good will it do you if our family goes bankrupt?”
Lydia shot back, “It doesn’t hurt me either, right? When I got out of prison, how did you all treat me? Not a single kind word, not a cent, not even a smile. Where was all that family love then?”
Clarence couldn’t believe how heartless she’d become.
Sure, they hadn’t treated her well.
But if Claudia or Zane had made the same kind of mess and ruined the family’s name, they would’ve been punished the same way, too,
And truthfully, Lydia had been spoiled for over ten years. She got everything she wanted. Compared to her, Claudia was treated like an outsider–almost like an orphan.
And now, after she and her mother had torn apart the Lancaster family, how could she possibly stand there, so bold and unashamed, demanding money like she’d done nothing wrong?
But Lydia wouldn’t back down.

Clarence tried hard to keep calm. “200 million is impossible. 10 million, at most. But only if we can sell the company’s patents.”
That was their last bit of hope.
The company couldn’t be saved anymore, but maybe they could at least pay off the debts.
When she heard the word “patents,” Lydia’s eyes flashed for a moment.
She pulled the blanket over herself and turned her back to Clarence. “Get out!”
Clarence slammed the door and walked out, full of anger.
In the corner, forgotten by the two fighting, Zane stood still, looking lost.
Unlike Clarence, who had been trained to run the family business, or Lydia, who always fought hard for what she wanted, or Claudia, who had suffered a lot, Zane had lived an easy life.
He mostly spent his time having fun and parties.
He was easily swayed, never had strong opinions, and acted without thinking. Long ago, Lydia had often used him as a weapon to go against Claudia.
He used to believe that he and Lydia were close–closer than real siblings.
But after the truth about Zoey came out, he didn’t know how to face Lydia anymore. And now, he was confronted with her cold and heartless side.
She was even threatening to put the woman who had raised and cared for them—their mother -behind bars!
Lydia, we are siblings…” he whispered.
Lydia turned her head, realizing someone else was still in the room.
“Siblings?” she repeated, looking at Zane’s innocent face. A cruel smile spread across her lips. “Did you forget who your biological sister is?
“Zane, have I ever told you? Out of everyone in this family, you’re the one I hate the most.”
Yes. Not Claudia, but Zane.
“Why?” Zane asked, looking shocked, like he’d just been punched.
