Was Sterling completely bewitched by Claudia? Wasn’t he worried she might rekindle things with Jasper? Didn’t it bother him that she seemed torn, that it might drive a wedge between
them?
However, his attitude said it all.
Lydia’s chest tightened as her gaze drifted toward Jasper, who was standing a little apart yet could not take his eyes off Claudia.
Claudia was always the lucky one–first Jasper, now Sterling. Why was she always the one being favored?
Sterling had clearly run out of patience. He walked straight over and called out, “Claudia.”
Claudia turned around, her face lighting up with a smile.
“You finally came.” She pouted, muttering under her breath, “You’re so slow.”
Sterling just stood there and let her scold him, slipping her coat on for her. “Sorry, Baby. My fault.”
After buttoning it up, he leaned down and kissed her lips. “Did you get cold?”
Claudia pressed her chilled hand against his face.
Sterling frowned, gripping her hand with a hint of irritation. “Why are they so cold? Let’s go back. I’ll have them make you some tea.”
He instantly regretted wasting even a minute before coming to her.
Claudia laughed, snuggling into his arms. “No need, I’ll warm up soon.”
She had just stayed out too long in the wind–no big deal. She hated tea anyway.
Sterling brought her hand to his lips and kissed it. When he finally felt her fingers warm, he let out a relieved sigh.
Once he was sure she was fine, he started pouting pitifully. “Baby, when you were talking to Jasper just now, Lydia was mocking me, saying you’d never get over your first love and that I’d always be second best. She even said you once loved someone more than me. Is that true?”
He looked like he was trying hard not to sound jealous, but it was written all over his face.

Claudia’s eyes widened.
Lydia seriously said that? Making up stories just to make Sterling feel bad?
And did Jasper deserve that kind of drama? What a pair of insane idiots!

Meanwhile, after dealing with Kamila’s “sudden illness” in the hallway and frantically reminding the staff to beef up security for the evening ball, Mandy–already irritated–was heading up to the deck for some air when she spotted a furious Claudia dragging along a smug–looking Sterling.
Mandy’s lips parted slightly, hand half–raised like she wanted to stop them, but neither even glanced her way.
Her cousin, Gabriel, came up behind her and nudged her shoulder. “Hey, why are you just standing there?”
Mandy stared in the direction Claudia and Sterling had gone. Not far away, Lydia and Jasper were arguing heatedly by the railing.
“What time is it?” she suddenly asked.
Gabriel blinked and checked his watch. “Four in the afternoon. Why?”
Mandy shut her eyes in pure misery.
Perfect. Out of a two–day trip, not even one day had passed.
She was absolutely going to murder whoever sent out those invitations.
“Get everyone on deck! Right now!” she roared like an angry lion.
Thankfully, Gabriel had foresight.
