She immediately spotted Mandy nearby, staring blankly at the dance floor like a lost soul.

“Not joining the dance, Ms. Zimmer?”

Usually full of energy, Mandy looked drained, her voice faint. “I don’t want to dance. I just want to go home.”

After chatting with the rather grumpy Mandy, Claudia returned to Sterling’s side, trying not to laugh. “I think Mandy’s sworn off investing in yachts or cruises for the rest of her life.”

Unlike other venues, you could not just stop things midway–once you were out at sea, there was nowhere to hide.

Sterling chuckled softly. Mandy really was unlucky this time.

He pinched Claudia’s ear gently, leaned down, and held out a hand. “Ms. Fox, would you grant me this dance?”

Their masks had been chosen for each other–his was a wolf, hers a fox.

With her chin tilted up in that proud little way of hers, Claudia placed her hand lightly in his palm. “Of course, Mr. Wolf. Lead the way.”

Even with their masks on, their figures and presence made them stand out among the elegantly dressed crowd–an eye–catching pair.

Mandy tapped her fingers to the rhythm, watching the graceful couple with some relief.

Aside from those two, Clarence was still in his cabin after a failed collaboration, Kamila seemed shaken and had refused to see anyone since returning from the infirmary, while Jasper and Lydia were both resting after swallowing seawater.

Sterling’s relative, Simon, actually seemed to be enjoying himself–he was on the dance floor with a familiar–looking socialite.

For now, all potential troublemakers seemed calm.

In the ballroom, the next round had begun–the partner exchange.

Men let go of their partners, and the women twirled, skirts fluttering, into the arms of new partners.

Feeling relaxed, Mandy turned to grab a glass of red wine from a passing waiter’s tray.

But just then, everything froze. The lights flickered and went out, plunging the hall into

darkness.

“Ah!”

Screams, footsteps, and the sound of people bumping into each other filled the room.

Mandy spun around, frowning.

Hadn’t she told them no more ridiculous surprise stunts?

But the lights stayed off far too long. Something was wrong.

Her heart sank as she thought of Sterling and Claudia, who had just gone to the dance floor.

Since she had not planned on dancing, Mandy still had her phone with her.

“What’s with the power outage?” she snapped at the on–site coordinator.

All she heard in reply was a thud–something heavy falling–then silence. The call cut off.

Thanks to Mandy’s earlier precautions, the staff quickly lit emergency lamps and candles, while security surrounded the area.

Most guests assumed it was part of a planned romantic surprise. Though annoyed, they soon relaxed under the host’s reassurances, and laughter soon returned to the room.

Only Mandy was scanning the crowd, realizing two people were missing–Sterling and Claudia.

Her face darkened. Leaving most of her team to guard the venue, she hurried out with a few bodyguards.
