Shattered Rose He Held On Tight novel Chapter 375

Chapter 375 The Quiet Before the Vows

410 Ford Coind

Yvonne and her son Simon had never been the type to gossip or stir up drama.

Quinton, still dealing with his leg condition, had barely left his study since Sterling roughed him up last time. He just drifted around in a daze every day. Winnie, on the other hand, was running herself ragged trying to get the Lloyd brothersprison sentences reduced.

Kenneth wasn’t particularly capable or brave, and after getting put in his place, he’d learned to keep a much lower profile.

Henry was gone. Waylon and Fiona were overseas getting medical treatment. And Frederick, whose background was a bit complicated, had taken off to Loscoqua and was now obsessed with studying insects.

Jackson and Dahlia had their little schemes, sure, but ever since the whole Paula situation blew up, they’d tucked their tails between their legs. Now they just sucked up to Donovan nonstop, dragging their kids along and showering him with flattery, all while keeping their eyes firmly on his inheritance.

Macy had always been cold and distant, never involved herself in family drama.

Hailey had been terrified of Claudia ever since that incident where she fell into the water. And with her husband’s business now taking a hit, things weren’t looking great on that end either. Sterling had already publicly cut ties with the Woods, and Hailey had ended up in no man’s land, neither here nor there.

Now, even if some people secretly cursed Claudia for being manipulative and always stirring the pot, no one dared say anything to her face. All they could do was quietly step aside.

Donovan looked around the table at his kids and grandkids, every one of them timid as quail, and shifted his gaze, annoyed.

It had been better back when only Sterling was in charge. Sure, there were underthetable power plays and snide remarks, but at least everyone kept up appearances. After all, Sterling only killed people, he didn’t smack them around.

Then Claudia showed up and immediately became the undeniable boss of the Romeros. She stirred up storms everywhere she went, refused to play by any rules, cursed when she wanted to curse, fought when she felt like it, and somehow managed to completely disarm a bunch of people who’d been eating more rice than her for decades.

With those two at the helm, who knew if it was a blessing or a curse?

Thinking of Simon’s upcoming engagement party, Donovan grew uncasy again and reminded random them. Is everything ready for the event? Go over the guest list again. I don’t want any troublemakers sneaking in.”

He paused, then added, Anyone who’s had beef with Claudia, don’t invite them.”

At first listen, that sounded absurd. It was Simon’s big day, and they were choosing the guest list based on the preferences of a granddaughterinlaw who hadn’t even married in yet. But strangely enough, no one objected.

Yvonne chuckled, Dad, you’re being overly cautious. Sterling and Claudia aren’t the type to throw a fit over nothing.

Donovan let out a snort through his nose.

If that didn’t scream trouble, he didn’t know what did.

Anyway, just be careful. It’s rare we have something to celebrate in this family, don’t screw it up.

Simon chuckled. Grandpa, you really don’t trust me by now?

Donovan looked at him and gave a satisfied nod.

Out of all the grandkids, Simon was by far the most dependable, the one who gave him the least headaches.

If only Leon hadn’t

Sterling, for all his power, always carried a wild edge that kept Donovan uneasy.

As for Claudia, Donovan never had a kind word to say about her, but deep down, he wasn’t entirely against her presence. Someone who could hold a beast in check, like a blade finally finding its sheath, might actually be a good thing.
