Chapter 65 Stirring Trouble

Claudia leaned against him, grabbed his restless hand, and said in a spoiled tone, Didn’t Hailey say there were no outsiders today? Of course I thought it would just be family.

Then she playfully nudged his chest. This is your fault for not introducing everyone to me.

Her own sugary tone made her cringe, so she laced her little punches with irritation.

Sterling leaned back, laughing more with every playful hit.

If I didn’t introduce them, it’s because they’re not worth it. Who knows whose illegitimate children they might be? Knowing them would be beneath you.”

That shot landed like a bullet, sweeping through the room.

A few women shifted uncomfortably, clearly offended. One woman sitting near Hailey flushed with tears. She had followed Hailey to the family gathering a few times; Sterling had seen her before. How could he act like he didn’t know her?

Hailey clutched her chest, enraged by the reminder that she was born out of wedlock. Being insulted like this by someone younger was unbearable.

Evie is my niece! How does that make her an outsider? Unlike some people with shady backgrounds, they carry themselves like a seductress, right in front of their elders.

Sterling!Evie Westwood whined softly, her eyes glistening with fake hurt.

Crash!

A teacup shattered on the floor.

The whole family froze in shock.

Crazy. This is absolutely crazy. Who would dare smash a cup in front of Donovan?

But the culprit flipped the story first, throwing herself into Sterling’s chest and crying out loud. I don’t care! She can’t call you Sterling. I’m petty. I get jealous!

Sterling’s low chuckle slipped out.

He stroked her hair, his sharp gaze slicing toward the trembling Evie. Did you hear that? My wife doesn’t want you calling me that. Watch your mouth.

The weight of his authority was terrifying, nothing like the gentleness he showed Claudia. Evie burst into real tears at the warning.

hiley’s lips twisted as she shook with rage. Unbelievable! She dares to act out in this house?

Her son, Logan Wood, had it worse. Tea splashed straight into his eyes. He spat, rubbed his lace, and shouted blindly. Get me a towel!

He suspected the woman had aimed at him on purpose.

Logan wasn’t wrongClaudia had aimed straight for Logan.

She had no real grudge against Evie. Liking Sterling wasn’t a crime.

But Hailey came at her first, pointing fingers and calling her improper. Worse, Logan had those shady eyes, following her with a sleazy stare from the moment she walked in.

Evie was a guest. Hailey was an elder. Claudia couldn’t touch them. But Logan? Who better to take the hit?

Sterling had already told hershe wasn’t here today to take anyone’s insults.

The whole argument over titles was just her excuse to strike back.

Too bad the tea wasn’t boiling. It only stung his eyes for a bit.

If it had blinded him, that would’ve been even better.

Claudia couldn’t help but feel a twinge of regret.

Outrageous! This is outrageous!

Donovan’s cane slammed against the floor faster than a drumroll.
