Chapter 66 A House Divided
How dare Logan stare at Sterling’s wife?
#Finished
That shameless vixen has trouble written all over her. Her gaze is pure temptation, and her temper is downright nasty.
After the scene, everyone could see it. Sterling was determined to protect Claudia no matter what she had done.
Donovan was furious. Sterling simply brushed it off with a light remark. “Claudia has a nasty temper. Everyone, please bear with her.”
Amelda Snow, who had arrived with Dahlia Romero, Jackson’s wife, abruptly broke the silence. “Sorry, everyone. I just remembered I have something to do at home. I should take my leave now and visit another time.”
It was obvious to all that this gathering had turned into a standoff between Sterling and his elders. His resolve was firm.
Anyone who stayed would only end up looking like a fool.
Her father had ties with Jackson, and since he was interested, their family was willing to go along. That was why she followed Dahlia’s lead.
But seeing how things were turning out, she wanted no part of this mess.
She wanted to marry Sterling because it was the quickest way to climb to the top. What she sought was wealth and power, not enemies.
Amelda had the finest family background and carried herself with genuine grace. After she left, the others followed one after another.
A few who weren’t ready to give up lingered for a moment, but the heavy silence and stiff atmosphere made them uncomfortable. They stole glances at Sterling, but when he didn’t ask them to stay, they slipped out too.
The living room grew much quieter.
Then a sharp laugh cut through the silence, dripping with sarcasm. “Who would’ve thought Sterling could actually be a lovesick fool?”
The speaker was Blaine Romero, Kenneth’s son and Khloe’s older brother.
He ranked second among all the grandchildren.

Before Sterling could reply, Claudia squeezed his hand and stepped forward again.
“You surely know how to judge character,” she said sweetly. “Sterling is indeed loyal and charming. Honestly, if you had learned that lesson earlier, maybe you’d already have a baby with Victoria now. After all, a man’s greatest asset is his integrity.”
The words hit hard. Blaine’s father lived quietly in the family, surviving by keeping his head low while his siblings fought for power.
His wife came from no real background; she married into the family on looks alone.
Because of that, Blaine had little help growing up. He was capable enough, but the competition with his cousins was fierce. Against Sterling, who seemed untouchable, he was left to run a few small businesses that never really thrived. Frustration ate at him, and he always blamed his bad luck.
A few years ago, fortune seemed to favor him when he married Victoria Slater, a wealthy heiress blinded by love. She was the best match he could ever hope for.
But Blaine ruined it. Victoria caught him cheating before they married.
Victoria might have been deeply in love, but she wasn’t stupid. Blaine wasn’t a rising star in his family, and she wasn’t marrying far beneath herself. If he couldn’t stay loyal before marriage, why should she trust him afterward?
Victoria cried herself a river and cut him off after that.
Not long after, her parents introduced her to a man from a modest family who had a good heart and steady character. Their arranged marriage blossomed into love, and they were happy together.
Meanwhile, Blaine—who had chased her for years–was left humiliated. His failure became a laughingstock whispered behind closed doors.
He suspected one of his cousins had sabotaged him, but he never found proof.
Claudia had done her homework before walking into this house. She had studied every scrap of gossip about the Romeros that was available to the public.
Now, whoever dared to step forward got hit right where it hurt.
Her bold, unrelenting attacks left the usually proud Romeros unsettled. They weren’t used to being challenged like this.
