The camera jerked suddenly, shifting from their faces to show Jasper from behind.

From that angle, everyone could see Lydia leaning into his arms. He tilted his head slightly, and it looked like they were about to kiss.
Gasps spread through the crowd.
Words could be faked, but there was no way that kiss was forced.
People glanced back at Claudia, sitting there stone–faced and silent. Even those who normally disliked her felt a pang of sympathy.
Kayla and Rainie, who had defended Claudia earlier, clenched their fists.
That shameless jerk and that bitch had the nerve to cheat on the real fiancée right in front of everyone. Disgusting!
They mocked, “Mr. Fenton is so devoted. Ms. Wallace’s manners are just impeccable.”
Their sarcasm was thick.
After that kiss, the projector–despite Clarence trying to get someone to shut it off–finally went black on its own. The live broadcast was over.
But everyone had seen it.
Wilson felt like he might burst. This engagement party was a complete disaster!
He didn’t believe anything was going on between Jasper and Lydia. After all, everyone knew about Lydia’s condition. It had been the reason they’d forced Jasper to pose as Preston and help with her treatment.
That scene just now had to be because Lydia had an episode.
But the timing couldn’t have been worse. Why now? And why live in front of all those people?
With everyone watching, there was no way to explain it away.
Sure, they could mention Lydia’s illness.
But the whole point of hiding it and making Claudia suffer was to keep Lydia’s condition secret. So, she could keep her dance career intact and prevent awkward questions about her grieving boyfriend.

Chapter 82 Gossips
…
Still, everyone had seen them hugging and kissing.
Even if they explained, it wouldn’t matter.
What would people think if Claudia went on to marry Jasper after that?

Wilson couldn’t help but feel a sting of resentment. Helping with treatment was one thing. But was the kiss necessary?
He even wondered if Jasper was taking advantage of his eldest daughter on purpose.
Clarence also felt torn. He stared at the sweet–looking couple on the screen, but his thoughts were only on Claudia.
They’d always blamed her for being jealous and petty, but maybe that was what she’d been seeing all along.
Now that everything was out in the open and gossip was spreading, Clarence realized how messed up the situation was.
If he saw the girl he cared about getting cozy with another guy, he’d lose it as well.
Even if it was for treatment and made sense logically, she couldn’t accept it emotionally.
He glanced at Claudia in the crowd, who looked frail with her eyes downcast. His heart ached.
He remembered how his mother had whisked Jasper away during the proposal. Suddenly, he felt sorry for Claudia.
