“I didn’t give you this car just for you,” Marcus said, picking up the cup and turning it idly in his hand. “It’s for Lily too.”

Natalie blinked. “For Lily?”

“The rainy season’s coming. Driving her to and from school will be much easier. I just don’t want you two running around too much, it’s no trouble at all.”

A bitter smile tugged at her lips.

He was calling a car worth hundreds of thousands. No trouble at all?

“Send your information to the dealership owner. He’ll handle the registration and transfer for you.” Marcus set the cup down, pushed the keys toward her, and said, “Don’t give the car back again.”

Natalie lowered her gaze to the keys, then shook her head. “Mr. Collins, I really can’t take your car. I’ll just buy one myself later.”

His voice was deep. “Refusal denied.”

“No, really—it’s just that I don’t need something this nice…”

He stood and leaned across the table, eyes fixed on her. “Then what do you plan to buy?”

“I was thinking something just over two hundred thousand would be fine.”

Natalie picked up the keys, intending to shove them back at him.

Marcus pressed his hand down over hers. “This one suits you perfectly.”

Her gaze darted to his hand. His touch was warm, and the heat shot through her hand in an

instant.

Sensing her unease, Marcus released her.

“If it feels like too much, then when you’ve got the money, just transfer me two hundred thousand. Consider it as if you bought it yourself.”

Still, it was better than nothing at all.

He spoke in the gentlest tone, but the words themselves were sharp and dangerous.

For the first time, Natalie felt just how domineering this man could be.

Before she could respond, he stood and walked out.

By the time she followed, Marcus was already in his Maybach at the curb.

James sat in the passenger seat, giving her a knowing smile. “So, Natalie, this car was a gift from Mr. Collins?”

Just then, a familiar voice drifted to her ear.

Natalie turned, startled, to see Atlas behind her. At some point, he’d come up and was now glancing between the car outside and Natalie herself.

“Sort of,” Natalie said lightly.

“Your ex–husband’s uncle really outdid himself. He treats you better than a husband would. Anyone who didn’t know better would think he actually is your husband…”

Natalie shot him a glare. “Don’t talk nonsense.”

“I’m just telling the truth.” Atlas grinned, scratching his head. “He’s definitely better than ex.”

Natalie ignored him and strode quickly back to her desk.

That evening, Natalie got a call from Jackson. Their child had a high fever that hadn’t gone down after two days of medicine; he wanted her to come take a look.

No matter what, it was still her child; she couldn’t just stand by.

But a heavy rainstorm broke out that night, making it nearly impossible to hail a cab. Natalie had no choice but to drive Marcus‘ car to Clear Estate.

When she arrived, she parked outside to avoid arousing Jackson’s suspicion.

What she didn’t realize was that from the second–floor window, Jackson had already seen her step out of the driver’s seat.
