Marcus‘ gaze lingered on her delicate profile. A loose strand of hair slipped from her temple; she brushed it aside gently and continued tending to Gabriel’s treatment.
It was the first time Marcus had ever watched her work in person. Only four words came to mind. Calm, precise, and breathtakingly graceful.
He didn’t know much about traditional medicine, but he had seen other doctors perform meridian work before; her technique was clearly far more skilled.
She didn’t even need her fingertips to feel along the body–she could find the acupoints with striking precision.
Then, the needle slipped in. What followed was ten minutes of silence.
Neither of them spoke; they simply watched Gabriel’s condition closely.
Only when the blood was drawn and Natalie cleaned Gabriel’s back did she finally let out a quiet breath.
His awareness began to clear; his breathing grew much smoother.
Once everything was taken care of, Marcus stood at the bedside and glanced down at his watch.
The entire process had taken less than fifteen minutes.
In all of Brookvale, there weren’t many people with skills like hers…
“Grandfather, are you feeling better now?”
“Much better. I can breathe easily again.” Gabriel beamed at Natalie. “I owe it all to you tonight, Natalie…”
“Grandpa, this is what I should do. Don’t think too much on it; just rest well tonight. I’ll stay and keep watch.”

Without slowing, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her down the stairs. “Come with me. I have a few things to say to you.”
“What are you doing? Let go of me!”
Natalie struggled, but his grip only tightened.
From the railing above, Marcus braced a hand against the polished wood, his eyes following as Jackson dragged Natalie into a room.
The door slammed shut with a deafening crack.
His brows drew together; his hand clenched around the railing until his knuckles turned pale.
After a moment’s hesitation, he finally stepped away and went downstairs.
Inside the room, Jackson flung Natalie onto the bed, then loomed over her, glaring down. “Natalie, what’s the meaning of this? You ignored all my calls, but the moment my uncle calls, you come running! Were you trying to embarrass me on purpose?”
“I didn’t even know Grandfather wasn’t feeling well. How was I supposed to know when you suddenly called that it was-”
Jackson cut her off. “You think I’ve got nothing better to do than call you for no reason?”
“Well, you usually only call Victoria. Why would you ever think of me? You only reach out when you need something–from the past, until now!”
Natalie’s tone was icy; her voice sank low.
When she tried to get up, Jackson suddenly grabbed her shoulders and shoved her back down against the mattress.
“Natalie, it’s always been you–your scheming, your malice against Victoria that landed you in prison. If you’d been the least bit pure–hearted, maybe I wouldn’t have nothing to say to you…”
“Oh? So now Mr. Gabriel excuses his own infidelity by blaming me? You’re saying it’s my fault you strayed?”
“When have I ever strayed? Which eye of yours has seen me stray?”
His hands pressed harder into her shoulders; his entire body radiated a cold, terrifying force.
