Chapter 51 Secrets and Suspicions
“Alright.”
Marcus had been about to leave, but when he heard Jackson’s words, he stopped and a sidelong glance. “Anything else you want to say to me?”
gave him
“Uncle.” Jackson’s eyes gleamed with curiosity. “Docs Grandpa know you have a daughter? Why have I never heard you mention it before? Not even the slightest hint.”
Marcus’s expression darkened for a moment. “From what I remember, my nephew has never been one to care about gossip.”
Jackson’s bright eyes flickered with a trace of confusion. “It’s not really gossip. After all, we’re family. I just want to know more about your life. This isn’t something small, and it should be told to Grandpa.”
“My matters don’t need you meddling in them. Just take care of your own business.”
His tone was cold and cutting.
“Uncle…” Seeing that Marcus was about to leave, Jackson quickly called out, “Your daughter seems easily frightened. Maybe you should take her to see a psychologist.”
Marcus’s brows suddenly tightened. “A boy is not the same as a girl. Don’t be so harsh when you speak. No matter how old a girl is, she’ll always prefer a man who treats her gently.”
Without waiting for Jackson’s reply, Marcus turned and strode away quickly.
Jackson narrowed his eyes at the man’s retreating back, his gaze turning pitch–black.
He swiftly pulled out his phone and dialed a number. “Find out everything you can about Marcus’s illegitimate daughter. I want to know who exactly my uncle had this child with.”
When Natalie arrived with Lily at the classroom door, the homeroom teacher was already waiting for them.
“Lily, hello! From now on, I’ll be your homeroom teacher…”
“Hello, teacher.”
Maybe because she had just been frightened downstairs, Lily’s eyes were still red, but seeing

the teacher’s gentle face helped her calm down quite a bit.
Natalie had already told the teacher about Lily’s situation.
The teacher had promised she would take good care of the child.
“If you need anything, just give me a call.”
“Alright.”
The teacher nodded lightly and then led Lily inside.
Still uneasy, Natalie stood by the window for a while, watching to make sure everything was fine before finally leaving the classroom door.
When she reached the school entrance, she saw a Maybach parked there.
A familiar figure approached her. “Ms. Foster, Mr. Collins is waiting for you in the car. He said he has a few words to discuss with you.”
Natalie looked up at James and instinctively nodded. “Alright.”
When she reached the car, she pulled the door open. Marcus lifted his eyes, locking them with hers.
As soon as she sat down, his voice came. “Why is Lily with you?”
Natalie froze slightly.
It seemed he didn’t know he had once helped her.
Maybe Cindy had never mentioned it.
Back when she had been beaten badly in prison, with serious internal injuries, she had asked Cindy for help. Cindy had found Marcus, and he had given Cindy some meridian medicine. It was thanks to that medicine that Natalie had been able to hold on.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?”
He looked at her with a curious expression when she didn’t answer.
Natalie’s thoughts were pulled back. She raised her eyes to meet his. “Cindy and I were cellmates. We got along well, and she once saved me. To repay her kindness, I promised to take care of her daughter after I got out.”
