Chapter 74 The Trap
Lucy’s breath caught. “What happened?”
Her aunt’s voice over the line was frantic. “They said a patient who came in on opening day for allergies took Ms. Foster’s prescription and went into shock today. He’s in the treatment room right now–life or death, no one knows.”
Lucy’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Before she could respond, a low voice beside her cut in. “What is it?”
She turned–Marcus stood there, his presence sharp and heavy. Her brows knit. “Natalie’s clinic is in trouble.”
His expression darkened instantly, the air around him sinking cold. He had come intending to take Lily to school himself after missing her yesterday. But before he could, Lucy’s phone call shattered everything.
After she explained quickly, ‘Marcus strode to the driver’s seat. “You take Ms. Lucy’s car and drive Lily to school. Meet me at Natalie’s clinic after.”
James jumped out at once. “Yes, Mr. Collins.”
Lucy bent down, stroking Lily’s shoulder. “Sweetheart, go with this uncle to school. I need to go
with your godfather to handle something.”
Lily’s eyes shimmered, understanding more than a child should. She nodded, lips trembling. “Okay, Ms. Lucy.”
Lucy pressed her car keys into James’s hand. “Please.”
He accepted them firmly. “Don’t worry. Go quickly.”
Inside the clinic, Natalie worked with precision. Silver needles sank into key points–the philtrum, Zusanli, Neiguan–twisting, stimulating, then shallow pricks to release blood.
She’d faced this before. Years ago, her own grandfather had gone into severe allergic shock, even worse than Quinton’s. She and her senior brother Noah had saved him the same way.
Outside, Atlas tried to keep the crowd from crushing in. “If you’re not patients, please step back! Don’t block the entrance–it’s dangerous!”
Some shuffled off, but many old folks clung to the doorway, gossiping loudly.

Finally, Quinton stirred. His eyes fluttered open. Relief loosened the knot in Natalie’s chest.
The door creaked open and his mother rushed in. The men helped him out to sit before the desk. Natalie reached for a prescription pad, but the woman slammed a hand down.
“My son got like this from your medicine, and you still dare give him more? Are you insane?”
Her voice rose shrill and cutting, her face twisted with cold fury.
“He needs it,” Natalie said evenly. “The treatment I just did only stabilizes him for now. Without medicine, he won’t recover fully.”
The old woman jabbed her finger. “Then explain why he collapsed! You didn’t cure him, you nearly killed him! Everyone, look–doesn’t this prove she’s a fraud?”
A murmur swelled, poisonous and loud.
“A sketchy doctor, that’s what she is!”
“I knew it was all hype.”
