Amelia’s pov

His voice pierced through the fog yet, the shock of what I had just seen is enough to make me faint. As the darkness cripple in, the last thing I see is his worried face hovering above mine.

Raiden’s pov

You need to take her to the pack doctor and let your parents know,” Damon mind linked as I grasped under Amelia’s knees and supported behind her head. I knew he was referring to Amelia potentially seeing me shift back into my human form.

My parents were fighting off the hunters outside of the building. I can still hear my mom’s snarls and knew she had shifted

into her dominating lycan form.

I nod, keeping Amelia respectfully away from my bareness. If she was awake now she’d surely tear me a new one.

‘The hunters are dead.‘ I mind–linked mom and dad as I notice Lester and Damon had also killed the hunters they were

fighting off. My steps are quick but careful as I carried Amelia in my arms.

The sting of the wolfsbane from the wound in my arms and chest made me wince slightly. I was healing, but healing slowly.

That wolfsbane must have been laced with something else. The wounds should be closing up by now.

‘Status?‘ Mom responded, her voice firm and dominant.

‘Amelia passed out and I believe she saw me shift. My jaw clenched as I squeezed an unconscious Amelia closer to my chest.

‘We need to bring her to safety. Shawn is making sure no other hunter has entered the border again. You and the boys bring

her home. Your dad and I will take care of the rest of the hunters,‘ Mom said firmly.

‘Understood,‘ I replied, shifting Amelia in my arms as I exited the building, Damon and Lester by my side.

“I’m sorry I didn’t think of the consequences for shifted in my human form when I saw her fall to her knees,” I grumble

sarcastically.

Mom shook her head. “You showed her your form. She knows you’re a werewolf. We were not supposed to let her know

about our world yet until we really figured her out. How will she understand us now that we’ve lied to her?”

I looked away, crossing my arms over my chest. Giovanni is keeping a good eye on her upstairs in my room. She had woken

up an hour ago and the first thing she had done when she saw me was scream in terror.

Giovanni had to sedate her to calm her down. She’s still asleep.

“I don’t know mom,” I uttered sarcastically. “Maybe start by telling the truth from now on and stop keeping secrets?”

She flinched and dad who stood beside her gave me a firm stare to calm down. My shoulders slackened and I sighed. “I’m sorry, I panicked when I saw her fall to her knees. I wasn’t thinking ”

Mom looked down sadly. “No, you’re right. We went about this the wrong way. We should have known it would come out sooner or later I wished later but it’s okay. We’ll figure out a way to get her to understand.”

Mom gasped, running to her to engulf her in a hug. “I didn’t know you’d show up today.”

“You need my help, of course I’d show up every time for you Em.” Lucy sighed, rubbing her back in comfort. “Shawn’s at the border with some wolves trying to figure out how the hunters were able to get through without any of us knowing,” she utters, pulling back and looked at dad

“We can’t find anything, maybe it’s best if we keep the girl here,” her eyes slit over to me. “You did say the hunter mentioned

he was here for her right?”

I nod. “His knew her name. Said she was coming for Amelia. I lost it then and killed him off,” I replied sheepishly, lifting my hand in my hair. “The arrow he shot in my chest also had some kind of note.”

“Can I see it? Who is she though? ” Aunt Lucy asked and Dad who I had given it to, comes forward with the little note between

his fingers.

“Could be anyone,” I shrugged while mom said. “Someone who clearly is here for Amelia. We need to figure out who.”

“It’s a saying,” Dad said to aunt Lucy when he gave her the note. “We’re going to ask Amelia if it’s familiar to her or not when

she’s more….calm and stable enough to talk to.”

My jaw ticks. “She’s not a wild animal dad.”

“I know that son,” he said calmly. “I didn’t mean it in that way. We just need to figure this out. We thought we had everything

under control, we thought we knew everything but clearly we don’t.” He said while handing the paper to aunt Lucy.

“Your dad’s right,” mom agreed. “We don’t know who could be after her or why. She shows no signs of being one of us or a

hybrid. To know, we all need to be on the same page, including her.”

Mom worried eyes flick to Lucy’s. “I think you’re right. Amelia will be safer here than anywhere else. We’ll figure out a way to

break this all down to her.”

Lucy nods and lift the note to read. Her brows furrowed. “The darkest moon?” Her eyes snap to us. “What the hell does that mean? Is that like his hunter group name or something?”

I shrugged. “Could be, but also could be something more. Why had it been on one arrow? The rest didn’t have that note.”

My body grows cold, recalling the events from earlier. If I had placed her on her feet that second that arrow would’ve been in her chest and not mine. She wouldn’t have healed like I did.

The thought of losing her numbed me.

“I don’t get it,” aunt Lucy voiced her confusion. “Why attack her in our territory? Where the shifter Queen reigns? These hunters had no fear. It’s like they were sent as a warning knowing they’d die.”

“You’re right,” Dad hummed. “This feels like an operation. It’s not to capture her though, it’s to kill. They want her dead.”

Mom‘ eyes glazed over. “She’s awake.”
