Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 118

"Hey, sis-in-law." Caleb was the first to break ranks and play along.

The other two dragged their feet, mumbling, "Hey, sis-in-law."

Stellan shot them a disapproving look, his brow creasing. "Louder. And try to sound like you mean it."

Julian rolled his eyes so hard it was almost audible. He drawled, "Heeey, sis-in-law!"

Alexander followed suit, just as half-heartedly.

It wasn't that they had any problem with Sunny—it was Stellan's bossy, old-man attitude that got under their skin.

"Sis-in-law, you look kind of familiar. Have we met before?" Julian asked, peering at her.

Sunny tensed for a split second.

Of course they'd met. Both the Mercer family and the Novak family had been at the wedding.

Alexander chimed in, "Yeah, you do look familiar."

No sooner had he spoken than his girlfriend pinched him, making him suck in a sharp breath and shut up fast.

The group all grew up together. Their banter was their own private language.

Vicky stepped forward and took Sunny's hand. "Let's go check out the other side of the room. Leave them to their guy talk."

Sunny was still a little unaccustomed to kindness from strangers.

Once they'd walked a safe distance away, Vicky let go of her hand and stuck out her tongue playfully. "Didn't you think their conversation was mind-numbingly boring?"

Sunny couldn't help but laugh. "A little, yeah."

"I'm Vicky. What about you?"

"I'm Sunny. I know who you are, actually."

Vicky blinked. "You've seen my shows?"

"No, that's not it."

Truth was, Sunny had recognized Vicky right away. She'd seen her years ago, fresh out of law school, standing outside her boss's office at Summit Law with red, tearful eyes.

She'd been to their law firm before.

Sunny just smiled. "You seem to be doing great now."

Vicky laughed, her eyes shining. "Compared to back then, definitely. But I'm still a long way from where I want to be."

She glanced at Sunny curiously. "So, how long have you and Stellan been together?"

After three years working with Alexander, she'd seen Stellan plenty—sometimes they called him jerk, sometimes boss Lawson, depending on the day.

But Vicky knew that for someone as private and powerful as Stellan, bringing a woman to an event was a rarity.

So, was Sunny really his girlfriend?

Sunny's ears turned a little pink. "Um, not that long…"

Not that they were even together, really!

While the girls chatted, the guys headed upstairs.

Alexander watched as Stellan lingered on the stairwell, looking back every few steps. He clicked his tongue. "Give it a rest, man. You look like a lovesick puppy."
