Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 128

He'd misjudged her. Completely.

Tristan flushed with embarrassment the moment he remembered that text he'd fired off in a fit of anger. His cheeks burned with shame.

Even though his assistant hadn't shown him her reply, he could picture just how furious that message must have made her.

Especially since she was innocent.

That thought made Tristan desperate to see Sunny right away.

He drove straight to Summit Law Firm.

The receptionist's eyes widened in surprise as the CEO of SkyVault strode in, asking to see Attorney Carrington in person. "I'm sorry, Mr. Lawson. You didn't call ahead, and Attorney Carrington has a hearing this afternoon. She went straight to court and probably won't be back today."

Tristan frowned. "Which courthouse?"

The receptionist hesitated. "Mr. Lawson, I'm afraid I can't—"

Their lawyers' case schedules were always kept confidential.

Wyatt happened to walk by and stopped short in surprise. "Mr. Lawson, are you looking for Attorney Carrington?"

Tristan's expression was tight. "Yes. Which courthouse is she in?"

Wyatt, not wanting any trouble, forced a laugh. "Let me think—it's probably the West District Courthouse."

Before his words had even faded, Tristan turned and walked out.

The receptionist stared after him in disbelief.

Once Tristan was completely out of sight, she finally whispered, "Attorney Glenn, Attorney Carrington isn't in the West District today."

Wyatt glanced at her. "Oh, really? I'll give him a call later, then. Don't worry about it."

He knew perfectly well that Sunny wasn't at the West District Courthouse. But the way Tristan looked—like a man itching for a fight—made him think the last thing Sunny needed was her irritated ‘boyfriend' showing up in the middle of her case.

A little white lie never hurt anyone.

No sense jeopardizing their team's work.

"Got it. Makes sense now. Leave any dealings with SkyVault to me from now on."

Sunny smiled. "Thanks, Wyatt."

She knew he genuinely cared about her.

After the call ended, Sunny noticed a woman in a white summer dress walking toward her with a bright, sugary smile.

Luna's eyes sparkled as she approached. "Sunny, what a coincidence running into you here."

She smiled sweetly, with a softness that was almost too perfect. "Did you know? Tristan and I are getting married next month."

There it was—the little smirk of triumph. Luna was sure Tristan was hers.

Sunny met Luna's challenge with a calm, almost bored lift of her brow. "Oh, really? Well, congratulations. That's one less cheating couple for the rest of us to worry about."

Luna's smile faltered, a crack appearing in her perfect mask.

She wasn't upset?
