Chloe had been waiting for her father's call, but there was still no word from him.
She'd thought that once her father found out about all this, he'd never let them stay in this rundown apartment any longer.
A penthouse was nothing compared to their old house!
Chloe was itching to get back and rub Sunny's face in it.
"Mom, do you think Dad's lost his mind? He knows everything now, so why hasn't he asked us to move back?"
Grace Quinn was thinking several steps ahead of her daughter. "Chloe, you'd better prepare yourself—we're not moving back anytime soon."
She'd braced herself for this the moment they packed up and left the family home.
"Your sister must have made some kind of agreement with your father, something we don't know about. She's sharp-tongued and always knows how to talk her way out of things, so honestly, we don't have to do anything—just wait for her to slip up."
Her mother's calm words managed to soothe Chloe.
"You're right. Hmph, that little brat, all she has is a smart mouth!"
Grace chuckled. "Now, you just need to focus on being a bridesmaid, do you understand? Whether you can turn things around for yourself depends on that day."
Chloe brightened. "Mom, do you have a plan?"
As if plans could be made that quickly! Grace just wanted her daughter to make a dazzling entrance, nothing more.
"For the bridesmaid dress, talk to Luna and see if we can pick our own. Tell her it won't outshine the bride's look."
But Grace was determined—her daughter would be the second most stunning woman in the room, right after the bride.
Chloe certainly had the looks; it was just her lack of presence that held her back.
Grace quietly resolved to help her daughter fix those bad habits of hers over the next month.
"What, got a hot date?" Wyatt teased.
She laughed awkwardly. "Nope, not a date."
Back at her desk, Sunny thought it over and decided to text Stellan.
[Sunny: Sorry, I'll probably have to work this weekend. I don't think I'll be able to go shopping for home stuff with you.]
Ten minutes later, Stellan replied.
[Stellan: Are you swamped with cases lately?]
[Sunny: Not much going to trial at the moment, but this is about your company's investment acquisition project.]
This time, it was half an hour before he texted back.
