Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 138

Assistant Lewis smiled lightly. "No, just came by to check if you still need the conference room this afternoon."

"We'll need it for Mr. Lawson later today."

There was more than one conference room in the building, so Jude Pierce thought Lewis's question was pointless. Every day, the admin team sent out a schedule for all meeting rooms in advance. Was Lewis blind, or just bored?

Jude gave a sly, fox-like smile. "No need, no need. Our CEO won't be using it. Mr. Lawson is free to go ahead."

Whenever he dealt with people from Magnus, Jude would only ever refer to his own boss as the CEO—even if their CEO was younger than Magnus's. After all, the whole group belonged to their CEO. What was he supposed to call him—Junior Mr. Lawson?

Lewis gave a knowing smile. "Good to hear. By the way, Manager Pierce, is your department's new merger project working with Summit Law Firm? I thought I spotted a familiar face just now."

Jude's expression froze for a split second. "Yeah, that's right. Is there an issue?"

"Oh, nothing at all. Maybe you don't know, but Summit's Attorney Carrington is our Mr. Lawson's ex-girlfriend. I figured she might be here for him. You know how it is—Mr. Lawson's wedding is coming up soon, and exes are best kept at a distance."

Jude blinked. Wait, what?

The Mr. Lawson Lewis mentioned—he couldn't possibly mean President Lawson's son, right? And Attorney Carrington… that's Sunny? Hold on. Does this mean their CEO has his eyes on his own nephew's ex-girlfriend?

Lewis could tell from Jude's stunned face that his hint had landed. Satisfied, he grinned. "Well, Manager Pierce, I'll let you get back to work. Mr. Lawson needs me. Catch you later."

Just as Jude was reeling from this bombshell, he saw his own boss's silhouette appear in the doorway.

Now that he knew this kind of secret, was his boss going to silence him for good?

Stellan arched an eyebrow. "What are you daydreaming about, Jude Pierce?"

"N-nothing, Mr. Lawson! All good!" Jude snapped to attention.

Stellan gave him a look. "From now on, let me know about every single meeting with Summit Law Firm. Got it?"

"You know, when he said we wouldn't need to work overtime. I just told you we'd probably have to pull late nights, and then he comes out and says that in front of everyone. Makes you wonder if he's got the office bugged."

Sunny's lips twitched. She forced a laugh. "Ha, yeah… what a coincidence."

Honestly, what were the odds?

Of course, Wyatt would never guess that Sunny was the one who'd mentioned it. He'd never imagine his own mentee could have any connection to someone as powerful as Stellan Lawson.

"Whatever, if we're not working overtime, we're not working overtime. Mr. Lawson's got a sense of humor, I'll give him that. Guess this merger isn't as urgent as they made it sound. Let's just try to handle the Lawson Corporation case during business hours and push everything else back."

Sunny chuckled awkwardly. "You got it, boss."

If only he knew—the real reason for Stellan's no-overtime rule was to free up her evenings so she could go furniture shopping with him. What would her boss say to that?
