Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 148

With her reputation as a prodigy, Luna's debut album boasted three original songs of her own, while the rest had been crafted by some of the industry's top songwriters, tailor-made for her.

Yet, despite all that, her album tanked—so quietly you'd almost miss it.

Well, maybe not quietly. To be more accurate, it crashed and burned in spectacular fashion.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, word started going around that someone was about to sue her for plagiarism.

Luna's manager, Mandy, wore her usual no-nonsense expression as she confronted her. "Luna, listen to this track. Are you absolutely sure you didn't plagiarize? People are already raising questions in your comment section."

Luna stiffened her neck, standing firm. "Mandy, I swear I didn't copy anyone. Listen closely—maybe a couple of melodies sound similar by coincidence, but the rest is totally different. How could that be plagiarism?"

Mandy wasn't just any manager; she was the best in the business, handling only the top stars. She could see right through Luna's feeble defense.

"I don't care whether you did it or not. If this blows up, it'll do nothing but hurt your career. You don't want your big debut to be marred by a plagiarism scandal, do you?"

"So what do we do now?" Luna asked, anxiety creeping into her voice.

"Hold on. I'll get a top lawyer to handle it for you. But Luna, let me be clear—this is your one and only free pass. I won't tolerate another incident like this, understood?"

Luna understood perfectly.

She knew full well that she'd only landed such prime opportunities because of Tristan's backing. But Mandy was strict—she wouldn't turn a blind eye to another wave of negative press.

If it happened again, it wouldn't matter whether Luna was innocent or not. The public would be convinced she was guilty.

"The lawyer can fix this, right?"

Mandy softened her tone to reassure her. "Don't worry. I'll get the best legal team in the field to take care of it."

Sunny had spent the past few days neck-deep in the case—working in secret, of course.

She'd pored over endless files, reached out to respected music critics, and even found a few willing to record video analyses highlighting the similarities between the two tracks.

Those expert opinions would serve as powerful evidence in court.

Besides, Jerry's song had been released long before Luna's. By Sunny's estimate, they had at least a sixty to seventy percent chance of winning.

But just when her confidence was at its peak, she got a message from Jerry himself.

Attorney Carrington, sorry for troubling you these past few days, but I've decided not to go through with the lawsuit.

Sunny was baffled.

What happened? Are you worried we'll lose the case? Don't worry—even if we lose the first trial, there's always an appeal. And we don't have to rely on just one legal strategy. The critics I contacted are all willing to testify on your behalf.

It's not about them. I just don't want to sue anymore.

Vicky, never one for patience, immediately stepped aside to make a call.

Ten minutes later, she returned, looking a little uncomfortable. "Sorry, Sunny. He really doesn't want to file the lawsuit. He might not have told you the whole truth—apparently, the other side, SkyVault, put a lot of pressure on him. If he keeps pushing, it could wreck his career down the line. I'm sorry."

Sunny gave a wry smile. "Don't apologize. He's the one who was wronged—he's got it the worst, really. I just wish things had turned out differently for him."

They let the subject drop after that.

Neither of them drank—just a couple of lemonades.

When Alexander arrived to pick Vicky up, he was surprised to see Sunny.

Isn't this Stellan's girlfriend?

Vicky offered to give her a ride home, but Sunny politely declined.

As she watched Sunny walk away, Vicky felt a pang of regret. "This is all my fault. I must've upset her somehow."

Alexander frowned. "What happened?"

After hearing the story, he let out a quiet chuckle and sent a message to a certain someone.

Boss Lawson, guess who I saw tonight—your girlfriend. She seemed a bit down. Want to know why?
