Stellan's patience with others was nowhere near what he reserved for Sunny.
He kept it brief, his voice low and calm: "Talk."
Alexander clicked his tongue, a faint smirk tugging at his mouth.
He'd thought he could play this man, maybe get a rise out of him, but Stellan was as composed as ever.
Maybe that girlfriend of his didn't mean all that much to him after all.
People in their social circles would find that perfectly believable.
"It's nothing, really. Just my girlfriend trying to be helpful. She wanted to introduce a client to your girlfriend—turns out, the client wanted to sue your family's adopted daughter. I think your nephew stepped in and sorted it out."
"She was supposed to marry your nephew, wasn't she? Now the bride's changed, so it's only natural she'd resent your adopted daughter."
He sounded almost as if he was making excuses for Sunny, but Stellan didn't appreciate Alexander's tone one bit.
He said, "Tristan was the one who got dumped. Are you sure you're not mixing things up?"
Alexander paused, thrown off.
Oh, right! He had messed that up.
He hadn't shown up at the wedding that day, but he remembered Caleb telling him later—Stellan's nephew had been humiliated by the bride.
But did this guy really have to point it out so bluntly?
Forcing a sheepish smile, Alexander backtracked, "Right, right, it was her who dumped your nephew first."
Stellan let out a dry chuckle and ended the call.
Alexander made a noise of protest, staring at his phone. "Did he just hang up on me?"
"You deserved it!" Vicky huffed, her lips pursed in annoyance.
Alexander rolled his eyes. "Vicky, why do you think I deserved that?"
Vicky pushed away his attempt at a kiss, glaring at him with surprising seriousness. "Alexander, Sunny's my friend. If you talk about her like that again, I won't let it slide!"
He blinked, not expecting her to be so defensive after meeting Sunny only twice.
"Alright, alright. I get it."
"SkyVault really went all out backing this newcomer. She must be pretty talented. Just listened to her new song, and it's honestly great!"
"Oh please, do you really think she's just any newcomer? She's basically royalty! All that money SkyVault's throwing at her? It's just Mr. Lawson's engagement present to his darling fiancée."
Sunny closed the comments, finally understanding why Jerry had decided to back down.
Sure, he could win the lawsuit, but going up against someone with that much money and power—no matter how many great songs he wrote, he'd end up blacklisted.
That was just how the industry worked.

Stellan sat at his desk, reading through the report his assistant had just emailed. The entire situation laid out, crystal clear.
Alexander's words echoed in his mind: she hates Luna because she's jealous of Tristan?
The next day, Sunny was back to the grind, dealing with the Lawson Corporation's latest merger. She was packing up to leave when her phone rang—it was Jerry.
"Attorney Carrington, sorry to bother you again. Do you have time tonight? I'd really like to talk more about the copyright issue we discussed."
Sunny arched a brow, surprised by his change of heart. "I might be running late today. How about 8 p.m. at the café downstairs from the firm? Does that work for you?"
