Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 169

Zara gasped, her eyes wide. "Sunny, did I hear that right? Uncle Stellan is actually cooking himself—for me?"

Reed Lewis, who hadn't gotten far, stumbled over his own feet.

He glanced back at Miss Zara with a look of sympathy. He never realized just how self-absorbed she could be.

Sunny gave her a gentle smile. "He probably heard you were coming and got excited, so he decided to cook."

With her best friend's reassurance, Zara's delight only grew.

Who would've thought that cold, aloof Uncle Stellan could be so kind and thoughtful?

But when they got downstairs and Zara spotted the heart-shaped steak on Sunny's plate, her excitement fizzled.

She dug into her own steak with fierce determination, throwing a wounded glare at Uncle Stellan.

Stellan, calm as ever, was slicing his own steak—also cut into a heart shape.

"Is it easy to cut?" He looked up. "I haven't started mine yet. Want to switch?"

Sunny shook her head. "No, that's okay. I can manage."

He ignored her protest, simply taking her plate and swapping it for his, the steak already perfectly sliced.

Zara stabbed a cherry tomato and popped it into her mouth. Tart. The tomatoes tasted especially sour tonight.

After dinner, Zara didn't linger. She left soon after, feeling oddly content, even if there was a strange ache in her chest, like her best friend was being stolen away.

Still, seeing how gentle Uncle Stellan was with Sunny, she felt a little more at ease.

Hmph. Just wait, cousin. You're going to regret this!

After dinner, Sunny went upstairs to sort through her things—not really to unpack, just to reacquaint herself with where everything was.

The walk-in closet was enormous, with most of the space filled by her clothes.

Stellan's things took up barely any room, but what he did have looked expensive.

He arched an eyebrow. "Of course. Mrs. Lawson, you're my wife—I want everyone to know. We're certainly having a wedding."

He added, voice resolute, "I told you—I don't plan on getting married a second time."

Sunny bit her lip and hesitated for a moment. "Then… can we push the date back a little?"

"Of course."

Stellan gazed down at her, warmth softening his dark eyes. "But Mrs. Lawson, when do you plan on coming to meet my father?"

Sunny's lips curled into a smile. "Very soon. How about next month—at your nephew's wedding?"

Stellan's eyes darkened with understanding as her meaning clicked into place.

He'd promised to support her, and he intended to keep that promise.

A faint smile touched his lips. "Alright. Whatever you say."
