Heh. He could already tell—someone was about to have a very bad day.
But just as Jude Pierce reached the door, a cool, detached voice sounded behind him. "Hold on, Manager Pierce. My wife prefers to keep a low profile. She doesn't want too many people knowing our business. You understand what I mean, don't you?"
Jude bobbed his head so fast it was a wonder it didn't fall off. "Crystal clear, Mr. Lawson, you have my word. I'll take this to the grave—won't breathe a word to anyone."
He strode out of the CEO's office, then froze in place.
Wait. What did the boss just say?
Wife?
Attorney Carrington is… Mrs. Lawson?

That afternoon, Stellan called a board meeting on short notice.
Magnus frowned in confusion. "Ian, has there been any recent personnel change I'm unaware of?"
Assistant Ian shook his head lightly. "No, Mr. Lawson. Nothing on my end."
If Magnus found this odd, Ian was just as baffled. There hadn't been any strategic shifts or major investments up for discussion lately, so neither could figure out the reason for this sudden meeting.
By three o'clock, the boardroom had filled. Stellan gave a brief overview of the current mergers and acquisitions on their plate, then fixed his gaze on his older brother.
Inside the company, even with Magnus, Stellan was all business, never letting personal ties get in the way.
"Mr. Lawson, I've recently heard something concerning. Your assistant, Ian, has been interfering with our merger with VeriTrust Electronics. Are you aware of this?"
Magnus' heart skipped a beat. "Stellan, who told you that? It's not true—someone's setting Ian up. He's been with me for ten years, he'd never pull something like that."
Stellan's lips curled in a frosty, dismissive smile. "Apologies, Mr. Lawson. Please address me as President Lawson—we are, after all, in a board meeting."
The words landed heavy as a gavel.
Every other director in the room straightened, tension running up their spines. This was it—the two Mr. Lawsons were about to go at it.
Most of them, though, were just here for the show.
Magnus stiffened. "President Lawson, do you have any actual evidence that Ian interfered with the investment?"
"He knows you met with Summit Legal," Magnus said quietly.
Ian's stomach clenched. "Ah… Is the president angry about it?"
Magnus nodded grimly.
Humiliating his own brother in front of the entire board—that was more than just anger.
"But Mr. Lawson, why would President Lawson be upset? Did Miss Carrington complain to him?"
Magnus's eyes flickered, thoughtful. He'd been mulling that over during the meeting as well.
Technically, Sunny's engagement to the Lawson family had been null and void for a while now—she was no longer connected to them in any way. So why would Stellan go this far to defend her?
Even at the cost of embarrassing his own brother.
Did their father say something to him?
No use dwelling on it now. It was Friday, after all—they'd all be heading back to the family estate for dinner tonight.
