Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 53

Lately, every conversation between Sunny and Tristan was laced with sarcasm and barbed remarks. Tristan had swallowed his frustration, biting his tongue for days.

But today, he'd finally had enough.

"Sunny, have you finished with your tantrum?" he snapped. "Take me off your blocked list and answer your phone already!"

Sunny looked at him, genuinely puzzled by his accusation. "Tristan, I'm not throwing a tantrum."

She shot him a cold glance, eager to head upstairs for her soup—there was nothing worse than lukewarm soup.

"Move it. Good dogs don't block the way," she muttered as she brushed past him.

But Tristan grabbed her wrist, his grip tight, veins standing out on his forehead.

He took a shaky breath, forcing himself to soften his tone despite the anger simmering in his chest. "Look, I got this for you at the auction last night—a diamond necklace. Cost me nearly a million dollars. Can we stop fighting now?"

A million dollars?

Sunny gave him a look like he'd lost his mind.

"Oh, such a lucky number," she drawled. "Why not save it for your beloved sister?"

That did it. Tristan exploded. "Why do you always have to compare yourself to Luna?"

"I've told you a thousand times, Luna is my sister. You push me, Grandpa pushes me—no one else treats her well except for me! Can't you at least try to understand?"

Sunny's voice turned icy. "I can't and I won't. I'm not pushing you. I told you, we're over. No wedding, no marriage. What more do you want from me?"

Tristan didn't believe a word of it. He saw her words as just another outburst—how could she really mean to call off their wedding?

The ceremony was just days away. If they canceled now, both families would be the laughingstock of the entire Capital Elite Circle.

"What will it take for you to calm down and stop this nonsense? Just come with me to sign the papers, and let's get this over with."

Sunny looked him over with cool detachment. The face she'd once adored was now etched with irritation and impatience.

She yanked her hand from his grip and walked upstairs without a backward glance.

Tristan stared after her, stunned. Did she really mean it? Was she actually calling off the wedding?

Meanwhile, Magnus was out on the golf course with Sean.

"Only five days until the big wedding," Magnus said, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. "Looks like we'll finally be family."

Sean nodded quickly. "Yes, marrying Tristan is the best thing that's ever happened to Sunny."

After a clean swing, Magnus casually probed, "But they haven't signed the marriage license yet, have they? Sean, have you talked to Sunny about it?"

Sean pressed his lips together. "I imagine they've both just been busy lately. My mother's been unwell, and Sunny grew up with her grandmother, so she's probably a bit emotional right now. No big deal—the ceremony can go ahead either way."
