Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 56

As soon as Stellan pushed open the door, every eye in the room turned to him. Wyatt's heart skipped at the sight of the woman beside Stellan.

Was he imagining things? Because those two looked perfect together. Like a couple straight out of a magazine.

Jude Pierce felt the same thrill. See? He'd known there was something between those two! His boss was practically beaming—since when did the famously frosty Mr. Lawson ever look that warm around any of them?

Stellan took his seat at the head of the table, unhurried and self-assured. "Sorry to keep you waiting. I just ran into Attorney Carrington outside—she seemed to be on the phone with her boyfriend."

In an instant, Sunny's face turned bright red. Boyfriend? Where did Stellan even come up with that nonsense?

Wyatt's confusion lasted only a second before things clicked. So that "ST" must have been her ex!

Meanwhile, Jude shot Stellan a knowing look. Wasn't the boss just fooling himself at this point?

After a moment's awkwardness, the group settled into the business at hand: the contract signing.

Stellan fixed Wyatt with a cool gaze. "I've heard there's been some internal competition at your firm. So for this contract, we've specified that the lead legal team will be Attorney Glenn's—yours, exclusively. Do you agree to that?"

Wyatt felt like he'd just won the lottery. Mr. Lawson was handpicking him to head up the merger—no one else would have a shot at interfering. Even with his usual composure, his excitement was impossible to hide.

"O-of course. Absolutely."

Stellan's eyebrows lifted ever so slightly. "If there are no objections, please sign here, Attorney Glenn."

He leaned forward and scrawled his own signature with swift finality.

Sunny watched him, noting how different he looked in work mode—serious, almost severe, nothing like the man she'd seen just outside the room. She couldn't help but wonder what face he'd wear around his girlfriend.

The thought startled her. Since when had she started gossiping about her elders like this?

Stellan finished signing and glanced at Sunny, who was clearly lost in her own thoughts. There was a faint, indulgent smile at the corner of his lips.

Jude caught the look and quietly sucked in a breath. There it was—his boss was finally showing his human side.

Her phone buzzed again. For a second, she hesitated, half-dreading more trouble, but when she saw the familiar name, her heart skipped with relief.

"Sunny! My plane lands at seven tonight. Are you picking me up, sweetheart?"

Sunny's eyes sparkled. "Really, Zara? You're finally coming home?"

"Of course! My darling's wedding is at the end of the month, isn't it? Oh, and by the way, why haven't you sent me a picture of your marriage certificate with my brother?"

Zara Lawson—the second daughter of the Lawson family. Unlike Luna, Zara was a true blue-blood. Her father had passed away young, but she remained her grandfather's favorite granddaughter.

Three months ago, after a tough breakup, Zara had announced she was traveling the world to mend her broken heart. Sunny hadn't mentioned her own broken engagement to her at all.

"Sunny? Why so quiet? Don't tell me you've gotten tired of me—I'd be devastated!"

Sunny couldn't help but laugh. "You're my best girl. I couldn't get tired of you if I tried. Zara—I'm not getting married. Your brother and I broke up."
