"No, I won't intrude on Miss Bennett and Mr. Lawson's lunch. I have something to take care of, so I'll be going now."
A restless irritation rose in Tristan's chest. "Wait, let me walk you out. We were just heading downstairs ourselves."
He turned to Luna with a gentle smile. "Come on, didn't you say you were hungry?"
Persistent as a shadow.
Sunny cursed inwardly. Did he really have to share the elevator with her?
She stepped in first, stabbing the button for the second basement level.
Tristan and Luna stood side by side as the doors slid shut.
When the numbers glowed "12," the elevator suddenly lurched. The lights snapped off, plunging them into darkness.
Sunny froze against the elevator wall, her whole body rigid.
"Tristan, what's happening? I'm scared." Luna's trembling voice made your heart ache just to hear it.
Tristan pulled her into his arms. "Don't be afraid, it's okay. Someone will come help us soon."
He tried the emergency call button, but nothing happened. His phone showed just a single bar of signal.
"Sunny, do you have any service?" he called.
Sunny was barely holding it together, her shirt already soaked with sweat. "N-no, nothing."
Tristan must have noticed something off about her. "Sunny, are you alright?"
No sooner had he spoken than the elevator shuddered again, metal groaning in the dark.
A shrill scream erupted from the woman in his arms, demanding all his focus.
"Tristan, I'm so scared, what if we can't get out?"
He could feel his little sister trembling against him. Any thought for Sunny faded as he dialed 911.
"Hello, we're trapped in an elevator at SkyVault Entertainment, 88 Central Riverside Boulevard."
"How soon can you get here?"
He hung up and spoke softly, "It's alright, don't be scared. They said the fire department will be here in ten minutes, tops. I'm right here with you, Luna. You'll be fine, I promise."
No one paid any attention to the woman pale as a sheet, huddled in the corner.
Sunny forced herself not to crumble, refusing to break down in front of them. She crouched low, struggling to breathe.
The darkness was suffocating, thick as tar. She couldn't see her own hand in front of her face.
It felt like something was closing in from all sides, trapping her in that small corner, squeezing the air from her lungs.
Sunny's legs wouldn't stop shaking. Manager Williams recognized her almost immediately—Summit Law Firm's Attorney Carrington.
"Attorney Carrington, are you alright?" he asked with concern.
Sunny shook her head. "I'm fine."
"If you could just help me over to sit for a while, that'd be enough."

Zara was enjoying the flowers in her family's old garden when her phone rang.
She put the call on speaker. "Hey, Sunny, darling! Miss me already? It's only been a day."
"Zara," Sunny's voice was barely above a whisper, "Can you come to SkyVault? I'm on the nineteenth floor."
"What's wrong?" Zara's voice shot up an octave. "Sunny, are you okay? Okay, don't move, I'm coming!"
She didn't know what had happened yet, but she couldn't miss the trembling in her best friend's voice.
Stellan had just stepped out of his car when he saw his niece rushing past. "Zara, where to?"
"Uncle Stellan, something happened to Sunny. I have to go find her."
Stellan's heart skipped a beat; his fingers tightened around his keys. "Alright, don't panic. I'm coming with you!"
