Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 64

"Sunny, don't you think my Uncle Stellan is a little… you know, into you?"

"No, I don't." Sunny cut her off without hesitation. "Zara, your Uncle Stellan is just a kind man. He treats me like family, nothing more. Don't get weird ideas, okay?"

"Yeah, you're probably right," Zara mused, tapping her chin. "Besides, you're my cousin's fiancée."

"Speaking of which, Zara, are you really sure you want to call off the engagement? The wedding's only four days away."

Sunny let out a small, relaxed laugh. "Absolutely. Your brother never cared about me. If I go through with this, I'll just end up regretting it."

"It's all because of Luna. She was doing just fine overseas—why did she have to come back now?"

Zara hugged her best friend tightly. "It's okay, Sunny. No matter what happens between you and my brother, we'll always be best friends."

"You can count on me—I'm on your side, no questions asked."

Sunny smiled softly. "By the way, have your uncle and aunt told Grandpa Lawson about us calling off the wedding?"

Zara shook her head. "Nope. Just a few days ago, some relatives were still saying they'd be flying in for Tristan's big day."

Sunny frowned. There were only four days left. Did they really plan to wait until the day of the wedding to break the news?

"I get it."

Tristan tossed and turned all night, barely managing any sleep before dragging himself into the office the next morning, dark circles under his eyes.

He remembered asking Manager Williams from Admin to keep an eye on Sunny yesterday, so he made his way to the admin department.

"How did things go after I asked you to look after Attorney Carrington yesterday?"

Manager Williams blinked in surprise. "Oh, Attorney Carrington? She said she didn't need me to hover, so I just left her be."

After the elevator incident, they'd had engineering check every lift in the building before letting people use them again. Williams had been run ragged helping them; watching over a visiting lawyer hadn't exactly been his top priority.

Tristan tapped his fingers thoughtfully on the desk. "She seemed okay, right?"

Williams tried to recall. "She was a bit shaken up, but that's pretty normal. Any woman would be rattled after something like that."

Tristan's face darkened. He didn't say anything else, just turned and headed back to his office.

He was debating whether to call Sunny and check in when his phone rang—Luna was calling.

"Tristan, can you please talk to Dad for me? I really don't want to go on this stupid date. That Young Master Vance is such a notorious player, I don't want anything to do with him."

She hesitated, her voice trembling. "Tristan, can you also talk to Sunny? Once you're married, I'll stop bothering you, and if she doesn't want me around, I'll keep my distance. But please, talk to Dad. I don't want to be a pawn in a family alliance."

Tristan's gaze grew cold. "Dad's forcing you into this?"

"Yeah. Mom called this morning, gave me a name and an address, said it was all set for tonight." Luna sniffled. "But I have a recording session tonight."

Tristan scoffed inwardly. "You don't need to go. I'll handle Dad. Luna, I'm not letting them use you for some arranged marriage."

Any concern he'd had for Sunny evaporated in that instant.

How long was Luna going to keep making scenes?

"If you won't do it, I will. Eight o'clock tonight, at Lawson Manor. See you there."

She swept past him and headed out—she really was running late.

Tristan stood frozen, stunned by what had just happened.

Did she really just slap me?

His jaw clenched, muscle twitching. "Sunny, don't walk away from me!"

But by the time he turned, she was already in her car and gone.

Eight o'clock, huh?

He let out a cold laugh. Let's see if she's really got the guts to face Grandpa and call off the engagement.

Magnus strolled past Stellan's office. "Stellan, you coming home for dinner tonight?"

His tone was casual, as if he hadn't been the one to send Stellan those security videos from his son's company the night before.

Stellan shook his head. "Sorry, big brother. I've got to head out of town tonight. I'll come by next week."

"Alright. Don't work too hard, and take care of yourself." As Magnus reached the door, he paused. "By the way, I've set up a date for Luna. Don't worry—the thing you were concerned about won't happen."

Stellan smiled faintly. "Good. I just don't want people gossiping about the Lawsons. That kind of talk is never good."
