Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 65

Sunny was in a foul mood early that morning, and Xander noticed right away. "Sunny, who got under your skin today?" he asked, curiosity written all over his face.

"No one," Sunny replied with a sigh. "I just got chased and almost bitten by a dog on my way here!"

Xander's eyes widened in alarm. "Wait, are you sure you don't need a rabies shot?"

She shook her head. "No need, it didn't get me—almost, but not quite. Relax, I smacked the dog and got away just fine."

Xander stared at her, speechless.

Was she really talking about a dog?

The big merger with Lawson Corporation was in full swing, and Wyatt was the lead. Sunny and Xander were there to support him. As for the smaller cases, Wyatt had handed those off to Lily Williams so they could all focus on the main event.

"Fletcher, Sunny, I'm adding both of you to the project group chat," Wyatt announced one morning. "Everyone involved in the merger is in there, so use it for any work stuff from now on."

"Oh, and make sure to update your contact name to ‘Firm Name + Your Name + Phone Number.' Got it? We'll probably be working late for the next while, so brace yourselves."

There were more than twenty people in the chat. Sunny recognized about half from the last contract signing in the conference room. The rest, she guessed, were mostly higher-ups—managers who wouldn't be doing the actual work but would be overseeing everything.

Jude Pierce was the group admin.

Xander scrolled through the list. "Hey, who's this ‘ST' that Manager Pierce just added? Never seen them before."

Wyatt frowned, the name ringing a bell. "That does sound familiar."

Xander tapped on the contact. "No note, no clue. Probably some junior staffer."

Neither of them noticed the woman next to them suddenly freeze, her whole body tense.

Sunny's heart thudded. No way, she thought. It's just a merger project. Did the CEO really need to join the group chat himself?

Suddenly, Wyatt smacked his thigh. "I remember now!"

His booming voice startled Sunny, making her shoulders jump.

Stellan's presence was a clear sign: Lawson Corporation was taking this merger extremely seriously.

For the next few months, this case would be the center of their lives.

As the workday wound down, Sunny packed her things as usual. Xander was preparing to stay late.

She nodded at him. "I've got something to take care of, so I'm heading out."

"No problem. Go ahead."

She'd made a promise that morning—and now she needed to make good on it.

Sunny eyed the elevator warily, a little on edge after what had happened that morning. She even considered taking the stairs from the eighteenth floor, but thought better of it.

Just as she stepped out onto the lobby, her phone rang. It was Grace Quinn. "Sunny, I'm driving past your office right now. I was going to wait until you came back to town, but since I'm here, I thought I'd drop something off for you."
