Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 95

It all felt a little surreal to her.

Three days later, Grace Quinn was starting to lose her patience.

"Sean, your daughter has lost her mind. All I wanted was to introduce her to my nephew, and now she's accusing him of sexual harassment!"

"My in-laws run a business too—even if she didn't like him, that's no reason to make false accusations!"

Sean's face turned red with anger. "Has she lost it? Did she actually go to the police?"

"She doesn't have any evidence; the police won't do anything!"

Grace stamped her foot. "Sean, have you forgotten? She's a lawyer! She could make black look white if she wanted to!"

Sean tried to calm her down. "Enough, I get it. She's coming back soon for her grandmother's memorial. I'll talk to her then."

After her bereavement leave, Sunny was back at the law firm.

Xander noticed how much weight she'd lost and gave her a concerned look. "Sunny, are you okay?"

"The Lawson Corporation merger talks are on pause until next week. Why not take a couple more days off? Get some rest."

Sunny managed a wry smile. "I only get three days for bereavement. Anything more counts against my vacation days."

Besides, there was still so much that needed her attention—she couldn't afford to wallow in grief.

Wyatt called her and Xander into his office. "Sunny, are you all right? Feeling up to speed?"

"I'm good, boss. I've got this," she replied.

"Great. This afternoon, you and Xander will head to VeriTrust Electronics for due diligence."

"Got it," they answered in unison.

VeriTrust Electronics was a family-run company that had been in the electronics game for a decade, but now it was at a crossroads.

Internal politics ran deep, and due diligence here wasn't going to be easy.

Take their head of finance, for example—he was the company president's uncle.

Sunny's smile was understated. "It was nothing. Actually, I heard something interesting while I was there."

"Oh?" Xander asked.

"Turns out, the head of finance and the head of sales used to be married. Ever since their divorce two years ago, those two departments can't stand each other."

"That explains why finance wouldn't help us get the contracts from sales," Xander said, suddenly understanding.

As they stepped out of the office building, Sunny glanced at her phone. Sean was calling.

"Aren't you going to answer?" Xander asked when she declined the call.

"Spam call. Not worth picking up," Sunny replied flatly.

"Let's head back. We can come again the day after tomorrow."

Once she was in the car, Sunny noticed a text from Sean: [Sunny, we're family. Don't be so stubborn. Go withdraw your report at the police station.]

She stared at the message with cold indifference, then deleted it without hesitation.

When they'd drugged her, did they ever think this day would come?
