Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 102

Still, not wanting her parents to worry, she quickly pushed down her emotions and smiled, “Something came up, so I took Lillian out for a bit… Sweetheart, say hi to Grandma and Grandpa.”

Lillian blinked her big eyes, hesitated for a moment, and then piped up in her tiny voice, “Grandpa, Grandma~”

“Hey there!”

Melissa and Jerry both froze for a split second, but then their faces lit right up.

Melissa scooped Lillian up in a big bear hug, her eyes shining with love. “Oh honey, it’s been months since Grandma saw you. I missed you so much, my little pumpkin!”

Jerry chuckled warmly and said, “Grandpa brought you a whole bunch of toys this time, Lillian. Want to come in and check them out?”

Lillian nodded her little head enthusiastically.

Camila hurried them inside.

Once they were in the living room, her parents immediately started unpacking bags—there were toys for Lillian, of course, but also health supplements and a box of Camila’s favorite pastries and snacks.

Camila couldn’t help but protest, “Mom, Dad, you really didn’t have to bring all this! You know you don’t have to spend so much.”

Both her parents were high school teachers and lived on modest salaries. But these gifts looked expensive, definitely a splurge for them.

Jerry set everything on the table and grinned. “Hey, it’s for you and Lillian—how could it be too much? Your mom and I work so we can spoil you two a little. And most of these treats? Your mother baked them herself this morning! Nothing fancy, just your favorites. You haven’t tasted them in ages, have you? Come on, try some!”

Camila’s heart squeezed with guilt and gratitude, but she forced a cheerful smile. “Okay!”

She sat down, picked up a scone, and took a bite.

The familiar taste—sweet but not overwhelming, buttery and light—was something you couldn’t buy in any store.

“So good!” Camila said sincerely.
