Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 108

Camila Davis froze for a moment, then looked up at her mother in shock. “Mom, what are you—”

Melissa George’s face was drawn tight, clearly upset. “You really think your dad and I can’t see what’s going on? If he actually cared about you, would he treat you like this—so cold and distant?”

She let out a heavy sigh. “Back then, his heart was never really in this family. When you told us he was just focused on work, we believed you. But this time, when we came to visit, you were clearly miserable, trying to force a smile for us, and you’ve lost so much weight. He just ignored it all, didn’t even seem to notice or care…”

She shook her head. “Is this how someone acts when they love you? When I get a headache, your father is beside himself with worry. But Jordan? He walks into the house and barely even glances at you. He doesn’t even care about Lillian…”

Melissa trailed off, her voice catching. After a long pause, she managed, “At lunch, your dad told me he saw Jordan with another woman. I thought maybe he made a mistake, but now… I don’t think he did.”

Camila was stunned—completely blindsided. She had no idea her parents had noticed the cracks, or that they’d even seen Jordan with the other family at the diner earlier that day. All her efforts to hide the truth had been for nothing. Her parents had seen right through her.

Jerry Davis was just as upset, his voice thick with both anger and worry. “We raised you ourselves, Camila. Even now, after you’re married, you’re still our little girl. We can tell in a second when something’s wrong.”

Melissa leaned in, voice soft but insistent. “How long has he been seeing this other woman?”

Camila’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears. She bit her lip, answering quietly, “They were together before me—he dated her before we got married. He never really got over her. She’s been back in the country recently… I only found out about it not long ago.”

Jerry Davis slammed his hand on the kitchen table, voice booming with outrage. “This is outrageous! Absolutely outrageous!” He’d always been the calm, steady one—but seeing his daughter treated so poorly broke him. “I’m going over there right now to have a word with Jordan Smith!”

“No, Dad, please, don’t!” Camila grabbed his arm, panic rising in her chest.

“Why not? He’s treating you like this—Camila, you don’t have to be afraid. I don’t care how powerful the Smith family is. You’re my daughter, and I’m not going to stand by while you get hurt. I’ll make sure he answers for this!”

His cheeks were flushed with anger. He had only one daughter, and he’d protected her all her life. To see her suffer like this, married into the Smith family, was more than he could bear.
