Sarah Brown perked up instantly. “What’s going on? Did that jerk Jordan Smith finally agree to the divorce?”
“No, he didn’t. That’s why I’m ready to take him to court… I’ve decided—I’ll see him in front of the judge,” Camila Davis said, her voice steely.
Sarah didn’t hesitate for a second. “Say no more. I’ll pick you up, and we’ll head over to see my cousin—he’s a lawyer, no appointment needed.”
“Alright,” Camila agreed with a nod.
Sarah drove over in record time, barely twenty minutes later, and whisked Camila off to meet her cousin, Nathan Parker.
Nathan already knew most of the story—Sarah had filled him in ahead of time—so after a quick round of hellos, they dove right into business.
“So, you’re saying you want to waive all claims to property, as long as you get custody of your daughter? You’re sure about this?” Nathan asked, serious.
“Absolutely,” Camila replied without a second’s hesitation. “You drafted the agreement last time, but he wouldn’t sign it. Clearly, he wants to drag this out, and I don’t want to waste another minute. He can keep everything—I just want my little girl.”
Nathan just nodded. He was there to serve his client’s wishes, after all.
Sarah, on the other hand, shot up and slapped her hand on the desk. “You’re just gonna let that cheating dog walk away with everything? That’s so unfair!”
Camila just shook her head. “It’s fine. My time’s worth more than any of that. I’m done investing in things—or people—that aren’t worth it.”
She turned back to Nathan. “Please, just help me get this done as quickly as possible. Thank you.”
Nathan gave her a reassuring look. “Don’t worry. The court summons will be in his hands soon.”

The next morning, at Smith Enterprises, in the CEO’s office…
Jordan Smith was buried under a mountain of paperwork when Sandra Taylor came in with an update from R&D.
“Recruitment’s going great,” Sandra reported brightly. “We’ve got graduates from Ivy League schools, a couple of brilliant folks who just moved back from Europe—their résumés are on your desk. I think you’ll be impressed.”
“Thanks, Sandra.” Jordan took the files and started flipping through them.
