Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 113

The elderly couple glanced over the bank statement, their eyes widening as they saw all those zeros lined up in a row. For a long moment, they were completely stunned.

Then, the joy hit.

“Are you serious? Camila, you’re really going back into pharmaceutical research?” her mother asked, hope lighting up her face.

“Yeah, I am,” Camila replied with a bright smile.

Her dad, Jerry Davis, broke into a grin so wide it made him look years younger. “That’s fantastic! I always said you shouldn’t give up your field—it’s a crime to waste a gift like yours. Getting back on track is absolutely the right call!”

When Camila first changed careers, her parents had been quietly heartbroken. They’d tried to support her, but the disappointment had always lingered.

After all, Camila Davis had shown a knack for medicine since she was a kid. She’d even been handpicked as the last protégé of the renowned “Miracle Doctor” from Harvard Med. Her grades were always at the top of her class, and she’d gotten into the best medical school in the country. Even after graduation, her professors couldn’t stop singing her praises.

Her parents had always been so proud of her, and now that she was finally coming back to her true calling, they were over the moon.

Camila could see the relief and joy on their faces, and guilt twisted inside her. She’d let them down before—but never again.

“Mom, Dad, I promise. From now on, I’m sticking to what I love. I won’t give up on myself for anyone ever again,” she said, her voice steady and sincere.

Her parents beamed at her, eyes shining with pride. “That’s our girl! That’s exactly what we want to hear!”

With the good news, they were finally able to relax and get ready to head home. Camila tried to slip them her debit card, insisting, “I’ll be earning a lot more from now on, so let me spoil you guys a little. Don’t scrimp anymore—go out for brunch, get yourselves some nice steaks, take care of yourselves, okay?”

But her parents stubbornly refused. “No, honey, you keep your money. We never expected anything from you except happiness. All we want is for you to be safe and content. That’s more than enough for us.”
