Camila Davis had no idea what was happening outside in the coffee shop.
After the interview wrapped up, Walter Wilson took her straight over to the research facility.
Compared to the last time she’d visited, the lab was much more complete now—pretty much all the missing medical equipment had arrived. Even her personal office was almost entirely set up.
Walter hadn’t held back at all. He’d picked out the best for her: a sleek oak desk, an ergonomic leather chair, a plush sofa, and even the stuff in her break room was top-notch. Everything screamed good taste and, honestly, a pretty hefty price tag.
Camila looked around, a little overwhelmed but genuinely grateful. “Walter, you really went all out. You could’ve just put me in any old office, honestly. I’ll be spending most of my time out in the lab, anyway. Wouldn’t it make more sense to pour the money into the research instead? That’s where the real expenses are.”
Walter just grinned. “Do I look like I’m hurting for cash? Besides, once the lab’s up and running, I’m just along for the ride. You’re the brains here—I’m basically going to be making money in my sleep. Can’t you let me have my moment before all that?”
Then he leaned in, lowering his voice like he was sharing a secret, “Consider this my long-term investment. I want you to feel a little guilty now, so when you hit it big, you’ll remember who had your back. That way, maybe I’ll get a bigger cut of the pie.”
Camila burst out laughing. “Sounds to me like you’re just fishing for the big one, huh?”
Walter smirked, “Well, if you want to put it that way, I won’t argue.”
